Google today announced that its official Google Voice [App Store] application for the iPhone is now available.
With this native app, you'll continue to have access to all the major Google Voice features on your iPhone, like:

- Cheap rates for international calls
- Free text messaging to U.S. numbers
- Voicemail transcription
- Display your Google Voice number as caller ID when making calls

In addition to these benefits, the app provides some features that make using Google Voice on your iPhone a much better experience:

- With push notifications, the app will alert you instantly when you receive a new voicemail or text message
- Most of your calls will be placed via Direct Access Numbers, making them connect just as quickly as regular phone calls
After Apple tweaked its review guidelines for the App Store back in September, it began accepting Google Voice-related applications, and the company reportedly approved the official Google application late that month, but it has not been available until today.

Google and Apple famously squared off over the Google Voice application, with Google claiming that Apple had rejected the application, citing duplication of the core functionality of the iPhone, while Apple claimed that it had merely not made a decision on the application, leaving it limbo for over a year.

I don't think I've ever rushed to download an app faster - wonderful news. Wish I stuck it out though, I paid for a third-party Google Voice app only a few months ago.

Sorry, but I don't see it on the app store. I have Google Mobile, but this is different right? When I search "Google voice", Google's Mobile app(which I already have) comes up.

What I think would be fair play is for Apple to write an iTunes streaming app for Android. That would be cool! LOL

while Apple will never forget today because of the major money they are making off the Beatles, the news of Google Voice coming to iOS is more exciting to me.

Sucks for me I don't have a iPhone/iPad/iTouch just the iPod classic :-(

When is the app store coming to Mac DAMN IT!

Anyone know if you can change the calling out from direct dial to call back like in GV Mobile +?

Where are all the fanboys bashing this because the name Google's attached to it?

What will have more downloads today? Beatles songs or the free Google Voice app? ;)

Is the "+(man)" symbol on the dialer not working for anyone else? I assume this is supposed to open up your contacts....

I was very excited about this but so far its terrible, GV+ is much much better besides the lack on push notifications. I will be using both for the time being. Google official app for push and thats about it. GV+ for everything else.

Initially couldn't find the app in the iphone app store when I searched "google voice", but eventually found it if you tap "Show 25 More" at the bottom.
