Anyone know if these are available at local Apple stores? I'm going to be near one tomorrow and might check them out. The Apple.com website says available 9-19 so I'm not sure.

Different source locations I expect.

If you get a phone shipped to your house, you'll notice it is in a perfect rectangle box that is just big enough for the phone. I imagine a large number of these also fit perfectly onto a shipping pallet, with the pallet arriving at once in a US hub before individually being sent to their destinations. Adding cases to some orders would throw this process off.

I also imagine the cases don't necessarily get made or come from the same plant as the iPhone, which likely goes straight from the factory to its destination.

Thanks for the explanations. What both of you say makes a lot of sense.

Not convinced about this iPhone at all. The biggest disappointment is camera…..still 8MP and 1080 video?!?!? I am not photos specialist but pixel is pixel. If I want to make pictures for my family and crop it after that…well 8MP won’t help me much. It has been like 4 generations iPhones with the same camera!!! Not mention waterproof capabilities etc. Apple not even doing catching up anymore.
I am sick and tired of Apple counting on us being loyal

The 5S has one of the best phone cameras on the market, and if some of the posted images are any indication, the 6/6+ are yet another leap in performance. The 6+ can be reasonably expected to best every Android cam short of the specialized (and bulky) camera phones.

The pixels are part of what makes the iPhone cam so brilliant. Apple wisely chose to remain at 8MP and improve low light performance with each sensor revision since the 4S. For the sensor size, 8MP is just right, and I expect Apple will only go beyond 8MP if they enlarge the sensor size considerably.

EDIT: Okay, I'll hold my uninformed opinion until I try it out. Thanks everyone.

Nope, it's not. But a bit tired of trying to explain it to people who even admit that they are no photo specialists, but then make completely silly statements as if they had a clue what they are talking about.
.

The Canon G16, which is a current compact camera, $400 US, that I bought 6 months ago, makes fantastic pictures and its "only" 12 MP but with a very good fast zoom lense and an extremely fast focus even in low light. That's less MP than most Smartphone cameras; I'll tell you which one takes photos 10 times better than any of them :).

Many people who say smartphones take good photo seemingly haven't seen what a DSLR or a midrange compact can do. They take OK photo if you have nothing else with you; but people forgoing buying decent cameras and only relying on their cell phones may regret it later.

This what? Someone prefer cropping than properly framing and you agree with that? Myself, rarely need to crop more than 5% off any photo. Been shooting for 30 years though ;). You want more pixels on a small sensor so you have more noise, so you can crop?

A smartphone camera is in no way a replacement for a decent compact zoom camera with a fast lense and focusing mechanism.

Even if you cropped 10-15%, you sill got about 7MP which is plenty enough for viewing on an HDTV or a print.

**** cases. i am going naked/applecare+

Which is essentially a $99 case + $79 deductible if something goes wrong. Doesn't protect against scratches and scuffs and when they do happen you have to decide if those scratches are worth $79 and a refurbished phone that could be more trouble than it's worth.

Give me a case for $40 that can protect my phone out in the wild and can be removed in controlled environments to enjoy the phone caseless. To each his own.

Just came from my local Apple Store. They don't have any out yet.

Bought 4 - 2 leather and 2 silicone for my wife and I. Mainly because I could guarantee we'd have cases on launch day. If the silicone ones arrive and are nice enough I may return the leather ones. Hard to stomach $49 for a case.

So I have the black iPhone 6 on pre-order for store pickup and had planned on getting the black leather case to go with it. But am wondering how the red leather case will look? Has anyone had this combination on an earlier iPhone and if so, how did it look? Anyone have a picture?

What Dock is that?

Good find. But what's with the 2 1/2 star review on amazon?

If you read the 2 reviews one guy calls it a bait and switch because it doesn't ship immediately.

Colleague got his black leather case today. The leather looks different to my iPhone 5S leather case. Looks smoother/finer. I'm hoping the new cases hold up better colors outside of black this time around. 5S cases (outside of black) did not wear well IMHO.
