"Official" MacRumors Mario Kart DS Online Racing League

What would be a useful online form(s) for our online MRioKart Racing League to take?

I'm a graphic design artist for a living. I'd be more than happy to design the leagues Logo when a name is decided upon.

And again, I can host your league on my site if you wish. A members forum, a league page, private/public chat room, files hosting, anything you need, I'd be glad to help. I just ask that the leader would contact me about this if you are interested :)

I already made something but, of course you can come up with your own. Maybe we can have some voting thing or whatnot. It would be very cool to have a site setup and everything for the Mario Kart players, it'll be cool to post stats and such. Too bad there's no voice chat in-game, oh well.

Looks neat. I like the emblems. One important thing (I think) for our league is to preserve the MacRumors community aspect. If it can survive among the other communities on your site (like a MRioKart forum under the League section of your board. I personnally don't see any problems moving over.

I'd like to know more about yourself and your site: How did you hear about MacRumors and is your site a "commercial" site or a "fan" site?

I encourage all members to have a look at mkdsaaren's site: www.mariokartdsoutpost.com. What do you guys think? Could this be our league home? What do you guys think?

I "unofficially" picked MRiokart Racing League (Nerdboy's suggestion) as the name of the league. How do you guys feels about it? Good enough? Better ideas? I personnally like it and I think it's witty. ^_^

About the logos. All submissions are welcomed. I really think it should looks clear and good when shrunk to a small size. Let's say 64x64 pixels.

Agreed. I simply used ichat the last time I played. People might be uncomfortable sharing/posting their chat name online though. Maybe a more anonymous solutions is needed. Something like IRC? Is it still used? Anything better out there? I think I still have Snak installed somewhere…*I find browser based chat programs clunky.

I just got my copy of MarioKart DS today and I'm lovin it, linked it with my AirPort too so I can play online.
I'm interested in joining the MacRumors league match, my friend code is 515456 290125
Anyone interested in joining me for a match?
 
If needed we can use space and bandwidth on my server for the Mario Kart website if you don't want to use a .Mac group and get a real website going for it. I have no problem with setting aside some space and bandwidth for a second site on the server.

A real website would be nice but I wouldn't know how to build one ^_^ Worst case scenario is we end up with this thread and a IRC chat room, which is not that bad.

On another note. I've also tried my hands at making a logo:

I am guessing we can pool our thoughts together and make a webpage :p

and IRC hates me -_- it really does, like it never works and when it does it is all fracked up
 
srobert, that is an awesome logo! I was a little lukewarm toward the "MRiokart Racing League" name for a while, but it has grown on me quite nicely, especially with the advent of a logo.

Also, unfortunately, I have yet to encounter a "friends" match in the wild, even with our growing league. I'm going to try leaving my DS on, searching for friends matches while I do other things in the evening. So, hopefully I'll run into some of you online!
 
I had an idea but I want to know if its worth bothering with first...

I have very reliable, powerful hosting. unlimited bandwidth, space etc. costs a bloody fortune. we could use that?
I could make a sort of blog/forum hybrid using Wordpress and PhpBB2. the address would be something like http://satansam.co.uk/mkds or whatever.

just throwing some ideas around :)

I'm a design student too so I'd try my damnedest to make it beautiful looking.

PS. I wanna join in a match! I've only played a friends match with my sister and an online mate so far. 1 on 1!
 
srobert, great games! I didn't realize that you could play with people you don't know on Friends mode if one person in the group was on your list. :)
 
it's been great playing with you tonight, servian (sp?), but I think I definitely have to practice in order to even have a chance at beating you! I'll be on later this week.

Thanks for the games, guys. They were fun. :) I just have the power sliding down, that's all. The mission modes are good for honing those power-sliding skills!
 
*sobs* i couldn't play because i was fixing someones XP machine -_- fracking windows ><!

Still need to do more work for it tomorrow, like connect it to the internet and hope it doesn't die before i finish updates to it.
 
I managed to get a couple of games in last night with eva01 and Ash !

Am I right in thinking you can only play friends that you have both confirmed when searching in friends mode ? ie you cant get a random in on the action too ?
