My coach doesn't even know how an iPod works! He doesn't own one and my coach is a great coach don't get me wrong but he is very technology retarded. :p My coach is one of those coaches that love nature a little to much. ;)

well, you never know. just talk to him and see what he says

After 29 days we have 1651,86 miles. In order to make 25k miles by the end of december, we should have been at 29/365*25000≈1986 miles.
It looks like we are doing slightly better, but not good enough. Each person needs to put in more than (1-1986/1652)*100≈20 percent more miles.

thanks for the stats. we can still catch up!

We still have 11 more months...:)

Yeah, right now in most of the country it is winter right now and most people don't run or they go use a treadmill (unless you're hard core like me and go run outside when it's 20 degrees). So I bet once it warms up, more people will start running or run more mileage.

maybe we should try whipping the lollygagers. ;)

How many of you guys run on treadmills? Do you up the incline at all when you do? I recall hearing somewhere that a slight incline makes the treadmill feel closer to a road run, but I don't know if that's true or not.

i really hate running on the treadmill. here at school, we also have a 200 meter indoor track that goes above the basketball courts. it's boring, but i'd rather run on it than the treadmill. it's where i ran tonight actually

My sensor's battery only lasted 2 months. I'm returning it to Nordstrom tomorrow.

I do both.
When I'm on a treadmill it's never flat, minimum of 1% incline.
I like a treadmill for doing intervals or hill intervals.
I can control the speed and incline.

The scientific stuff...."When you run outside, your legs create propulsive force, driving your body
forward through space. When you run on a treadmill, the body’s center of
mass is static: there is no forward “locomotion.”
Additionally, the treadmill belt automatically drags your foot backwards eliminating the need for the hamstrings and gluteals to pull the upper body forward,
as compared to outdoor running.
This requires hip flexors to work harder to move the back foot forward.
Because of these fundamental differences, many runners notice faster times
when they run on a flat treadmill as opposed to running on level terrain outside.
You can replicate flat road running on the treadmill simply by adjusting the incline to 1%: the slight slope requires you to push forward, just as you would on the open road.
See this in action by running 1 mile at no incline and 1 mile at 1%.
Note each time and compare it with your outdoor pace. Which is closest to your road running pace?"

I just got Nike + and I set up an account....when I try and join the 500 club it won't let me...Anyone know what I could be doing wrong? It let me sign up for a different challenge...

I'm having the same problem with the 500 Club and the main group challenge, I've sent ziwi and email to see what he can do. I have 40 km for the group challenge :)

yeah, take that back. i had a similar problem, took mine to the apple store, and walked out with a new one.

hey guys, thanks for the interest in joining. we need all the people we can get. all you have to do is either post here or send ziwi your nike id or nike email, and he'll send you an invite.

I've read conflicting reports about whether it offsets the differences from road running, but thought I'd ask if anyone did anyways. I put the treadmill at .5% incline to split the difference, I guess. I could probably up it to 1%.

I don't mind it so much...I like the consistency of it, rather than the hills, sometimes. Plus, it beats the heck out of the sub-freezing temperatures. :) I'll begin running outside when I get home from work before dark and it is warmer. I don't live in the best of neighborhoods. :)

I thought we could follow the links on the first page of this thread..... nevermind. Anyway my Nike+ ID is sreedy25, so please add me to the 500 miler and the main group one..... I have emailed ziwi too.

If it were an open challenge, then that would work. But then we'd have a bunch of people who don't care anything about Apple rumors running with us. (; So...it's by invite only. The good news is your previous runs will still count.

oh man, I'm with twood on this one. I hate, hate, hate the treadmill! Time. moves. so. slow. ly. I'd much rather run in the cold than on a treadmill!

But if you're in a bad area and can't run until after dark, that's kind of a different situation!

Okay, now that is true...time does move slowly. :) I have to cover up the screen on the treadmill so I don't have to watch the dots move around the track, until I'm no more than a mile from my goal. Once I do that, time moves a lot faster. :) Granted, I'm not running nearly the miles you guys are.

yeah, the treadmill wouldn't be so bad if i was only running like 20 minutes (which is still very boring to me), but try running 40-50 minutes on a treadmill. i just can't do it

It does have it's upside though from a training perspective. Outdoor is great for most of the time, but in really bad weather or when you need to create a specific workout when you do not have, say, a hill terrain or if you are just learning how to do intervals and training your body for a pace - it does serve a purpose, plus it has to be better on the joints than the road - especially for the more filled out folks who are getting started.
