From a physical point of view, the energy consumption in moving a body for a to b, assuming the body movement pattern is approximately similar in walking and running, should be equal.
Ah, well, I think that's our sticking point. You're talking about calorie consumption over the same distance, and I'm talking over the same time. I agree that with a constant *distance* you'll see only slightly greater calorie consumption by running faster.
But I'm assuming a constant amount of *time* running, not a constant amount of distance. And since you'll cover 4+ miles in 30 minutes at 7 minute pace, as opposed to 3 miles in 30 minutes at 10 minute pace, you'll burn over 33% more calories with the same length workout at that faster pace.
My nike kit was used today for the first time in weeks.
Ankle held up so I'll be increasing runs.
That 25,000 target felt like it was getting away. Not now
I should be able to take 1500 out of it.
Wonderful! Glad to have you back! Be smart about getting back in to it. Oh, and to strengthen your ankle practice balancing on just that leg. At first maybe just on even ground, then on a pillow, then on an inflatable disc (if you have one), and then on an inflatable disc with your eyes closed. Simple balancing practice really helps rebuild the small muscles in the ankle that stabilize you, so the next time your ankle starts to roll the wrong way, you'll be able to catch yourself.
