I've never dealt with launch day activation..

What happens if there are the expected activation issues? Is it anything like the iPhone OS update a few years ago where phones went into safe modes and couldn't be used?

If so, I may just pick up on Thursday morning but wait until the weekend to activate.

most likely if activation servers take a **** again this year like they did for the 3G they will just send you home with the phone and tell you to connect it to iTunes later. No biggie. make an event of it and have fun if **** hits the fan.

In any case, I'll do what this guy does. I'll try it twice on Thursday, (I'll try after I get it or/and late night Thursday.) If it fails to go thru, I'll wait till Friday 11AM. Things would be sorted out by then.

Last year I waited about 15 minutes to activate and just gave up and popped in the SIM from my 3G that was going to my wife. I have had the same SIM since the first Gen iPhone. LOL

sounds good. i'm just paranoid that the phone will be in mid-activation when the servers eat it, leaving me with 2 useless bricks haha
