I certainly hope it's before the 15th of October, I can't wait any longer than that. I need it for video encoding, photoshop and the like. It isn't just merom I'm waiting for, also for a better GPU, bigger hard drives (160GB would be nice), user accesable hard drive, DL Superdrive for the 15" and although it's unlikely 3 USB ports would be nice for the 15". I don't want to buy 9 month old technology if I'm going to be spending 3k on it, and 3k does not come easy to a 16 year old who doesn't have a job yet. And don't go telling me to go buy a pc because I've had enough hardware failures and windows errors to last several lifetimes.

What do you see in the following image macOSX-tastic. :p :D :)

You only think that it says Merom, it actually says the most mentioned word on MacRumors in the past several months. ; )

its some sort of mind trickery, with smoke and mirrors and little ducks with cone hats masquerading as sandwiches.....you will never fool me!

Darn, your powers of observation are far too powerful to be fooled by my powers of deception. ;) :D :)

Ok, I just got off the phone with Steve Jobs. It seems he's had enough of people going 'when's Merom, when's Merom' that he's going to be switching the whole laptop line back to a G3 next Tuesday. G3 333Mhz for the MacBooks and G3 400Mhz for the MacBook Pros. The 17" model will have an option for a G3 433Mhz part as a BTO. It seems Apple don't like whiners any more than teachers do.

Isn't Leopard coming out in Spring 2007? That'd be Q2?

But I wouldn't be totally surprised if Apple bypassed Merom and just went straight to Santa Rosa.

just to be extremely dense (& lazy) - whats the santa rosa chipset? All i get on searches are references to some place in california.

Is it way better, less heat, more performance - or does no-one have a clue and are just saying 'mmmm...santa rosa' to sound like they're in the know?

So, buying a merom mbp when it comes out is a really bad idea, because these Santa Rosa chips will be out in a couple of months making your merom mbp some useless pos that will barely be able to run safari and itunes at once! But, do not, I repeat NOT buy a Santa Rosa mbp when it comes out, because supadupamegaXtreeemepowerkilladeluxe mbps will be out only some months after that! They will have battaries that can power your entire house for 5 1/2 hours and dvd drives that can cook a frozen pizza while burning 712xdualdense4tw disks! No use to get all excited over boring ol' merom!

If Merom is so damned important to your health and well being, go and buy a bleeding PC laptop with one.

Apple will release when its good and ready not because a couple of fanbois want the shiniest CPU, and then have the comment "Safari seems snappier".

Please people no no no more merom threads. The only fun reading in them is the bitching from people who couldnt give rats a** about it. I loves me a good beehive to kick every now and then...

OR
you're waiting for a GPU upgrade as well
AND
you might be a programmer that plans to utilize 64-bit registers
AND
you might want to have a Rev B MBP that hopefully has a lot of programs
AND
you might just get over yourself and ignore threads with Merom if they bug you...

As soon as they come out, everyone will be wondering when the Santa Rosas are coming! lol

I say sometime this month for Merom though.

1/10 monday

I did ask a laptop company (zepto) when they will have Core 2 duo in stock.
They told me on monday next week 1/10.

Do you think apple will have that too?

have core 2 duo in stock? they already have core 2 duo in stock. they are just not selling them yet... the laptop part anyway... and desktop is already out

Next month. The other C2D lappies have been out for quite a while and it needs to be updated fast to compete and next tuesday is in October so it rules out later this month.

On the poll: I think that Apple will update its MB and MBP line in time for the holiday shopping season. It just makes sense. The last update of MB and MBP came within three weeks of one another. First came the update to MBP and then came the update to MB. To me, it seems possible that there could be a staggered update or a simultaneous update.

Of course, who really knows what Apple will do?

My reason for commenting is a simple one: I am in the market for a MB or a MBP. I haven't decided yet which one I want. I am waiting for these models to be updated. not so much for the 64 bit merom chip, as I am to not have that awful feeling of buying a laptop and then three weeks later seeing it updated. I experienced that in my last two mac purchases. I bought an iMac G4 15" and 2 weeks later Apple came out with the 17" screen. I also "had" to buy a laptop for school, and I bought the G3 iBook only to see it be updated three weeks later to a G4. That one really hurt. Of course, that was before I knew about buying cycles and rumor sites.

In the US.....

In the US 1/10 reads as January 10th. That sounds reasonably conservative.

Next Tuesday, what what!

I have been waiting every Tuesday since WWDC and its getting really annoying and frustrating! But I am not dumping my very hard earned $2000+ on something that will updated so soon. I value my money and my computer, thats why I'm buying Apple, and why I'm waiting.

I am sorry didnt know that.
Here we read it as 1 october. 1/10-06 day/month and year but you can also write it like this 06-10-01 year month day.

Back to topic..

Might as well wait until Q1 2008 for the Octa-core 3 GHz MacBook Pros, with 250 GB Flash-based hard drives and a miniature nuclear reactor supplying endless power. These batteries will leave all users sterile and riddled with tumors. We will consider it worth it. The Octa-core MacBook Pro will be 1/4 of an inch thin (when "deployed" -- see appendix) and it will come with OSX Lion pre-installed.

OSX Lion's version of Time Machine will actually create a wormhole allowing you to go back in time to stop yourself from making an error while using your computer. Via a USB-based neuro-dongle, OSX users can let Lion's Spotlight index the contents of their brain. This will allow for easy searching of both short and long-term memory. Gone will be the days of wondering "Where did I park?" "Who sang 'Dancin' on the Ceiling'?" and "What was it like to be born?"

Appendix - Octa-core MBPs will be composed entirely of a highly classified experimental compound, presently codenamed "Nextuesdayium". This compound can alternate between rigid solidity and supple flexibility by applying a moderate static shock. The end result being that, at the touch of a button, a pocket-sized lump of soft goo will "deploy" into a fully functioning 17" notebook computer. Several users will be impaled by MacBook Pros deploying in-pocket while the users were walking on carpet without shoes, or by rubbing their hands on a balloon. We will consider it worth it.

Bunch of dribble

The reason people are waiting for Merom Mac laptops is because there's reasonable expectation that they will come out pretty soon (Merom iMacs and Merom PC laptops are already on the market). So, if you're in the market for a Mac laptop and can wait a week or two, it will probably be worth it.
