(+) Never had a serious hardware issue with my 4 year old MBP...

(-) my sister had to have the logic board replaced on her MBP (also 4 years old)

(+) family eMac has been trucking along for 7 years with nary a problem...

(+) other sister's MBP (1 year old) hasn't had any issues

3/4 ain't too shabby...

I've never NOT had a serious hardware issue with my Macs, does that count?

iBook '02: display replaced with a whole line of dead pixels; CD drive replaced, and actually upgraded in the process :D;
iBook '03: logic board failed 3 times, covered by extension programme;
PowerBook '05: logic board failed twice, hard drive failed once;
MacBook Pro '08: logic board failed once, so far, known issue, will fail again.

Just to even things up a bit, it's horrible reading about all you lucky people :).

I've had several Macs (ibooks, imacs,powermacs,macbooks etc...) over the past few years and have never come across a crippling problem or anything I couldn't solve myself :D

Apple For The Win

Oh, I forgot to include: iPhone 3g - silence switch broke off, unit replaced; replacement couldn't hold reception to save its life, replaced; replacement couldn't connect to wifi networks, replaced; replacement couldn't connect to wifi networks, replaced; 5th time lucky didn't have any further issues :).

And I still bought an iPhone4!

it's not that we're lucky, it's that you're especially unlucky... :(

^^^^^ So who had the avatar first, you or srl7741?

No problems with my November 2009 MBP.

However.....

I had some palm rest cracking and a keyboard issue with my 2007 White MB.

I bought an iBook G4 in 2003 or 2004 whose hard drive died and had to be replaced (No data lost).

The iBook G3 that I bought in 2001 or 2002 is still alive and kicking on Tiger, and is being used by my sister.

Everything was fixed under warranty by Apple.

Wow, 4 Friday Afternoons in a row, as I said earlier, the unlucky ones seem really unlucky.
My commiserations, you may be the reason the rest of us are ok, Apple just sends it`s dodgy stuff to you ;)

off topic but Surely what is that symbol in the leaf?

I've been using Macs since 1987 and have had very few problems. I still have a Mac plus, PowerBook 4400, Performa 6200, eMac and Powerbook G4 all in working order! The ONE exception has been the first gen blackbook... The harddrive, battery and RAM all had to be replaced. I still have it in my tech graveyard but recently the sleep switch has busted and the battery won't charge! When it's bad... It's bad. Having said all of that... That's one dud out of 21 macs owned.

Thanks for the support. I'll just let you all know the next Apple thing I buy and you'll know to avoid it :D. I have thought about asking them to give me the second one in the pile, not the top, or whatever, but I've never actually been in a situation where it's buying off the shelf.

Please don`t buy the 30" ACD, I really want one :D

i can also say ive never had a problem. Now, i dont know if its cus of luck or that i never keep a laptop longer then a year..

Converted to mac since feb 2008, never had a single hardware problem with my white macbook in 26 months, and not a single problem with this beautiful macbook pro in almost 5 months... :D

never had any problem at all.
Except that it turned itself off a couple of times, i did something to it and it has been flawless!!!!

My fan started making noise.
My palm rest started pitting.
My power button was never flush.
My power adapter has been replaced a few times.

No issue has ever stopped me from using my computer. But that's not to say it's been less trouble-prone than my old Gateway laptop, just that the problems were more frequent but less severe.
