I am excited! I know it is lame that I am so excited and I dont care! I have put off buying one for months now (b/c I didnt want to get a camera-less ipad ect...) and cant wait to start running netflix on the bigger screen of the ipad so I can use my MBP at the same time. I run netflix on my phone so I can use the MBP without having to put the video in the background when I am working on it.

I am hoping the ipad will do well with netflix, as that is what I have running as background noise most of the time...

This is how excited I am...I wrote a poem!!

'Twas the night before iPad, when all through Jackling House

Not an iDevice was stirring, not even a multi-touch mouse;

The banners were hung on Yurba Buena Center with care,

In hopes that St. Jobs soon would be there;

The children were nestled in black turtle-neck threads,

While visions of FaceTime danced in their heads;

And mamma by her Macbook, and I near my Pro,

Had just settled down for a HD photo,

When up on Macrumors.com I sensed such a clatter,

I sprang from the Launchpad to see what was the matter.

A new Safari window open, I flew like a flash,

Searching for news, scouring through iTrash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen tech

The glow of the Apple, much like a sunset.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a Mercedes SL55, and my eye glints a tear.

With a little old driver, so lively and boss,

I knew in a moment it must be St. Jobs.

More rapid than Thunderbolt, his Geniuses they came,

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

"Now, Schiller! now, Ives! now, Cook and Forstall!

On, Sewell ! on Williams! on, Mansfield and Johnson!

To the top of the stage! to the top of the screen!

Now dash away! dash away! dash away clean!"

As dry Droids that before the wild Blackberry fly,

Who when they met with an obstacle, just stared to the sky,

So up to the press the Geniuses they flew,

With the Fedex trucks full of iToys, and Steven-Paul too.

And then, while in iTunes, I heard in advance

The dancing and chanting, of all Apple fans!

As I flicked through my iPhone, and was multi-tasking background,

Down the aisle St. Jobs came with a bound.

He was dressed in blue jeans, from his waist to his foot,

And his eyes were filled with such a joyous look;

A bundle of rumors he had carried on his back,

he looked like a madman never looking back.

His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!

His desktop immaculate, iTunes so varied!

His scroll was inertial,patents drawn up like pros,

And TimeCapsule so thin ,as white as the snow;

Terabytes and more, forever space to grow.

And the rumors encirlced every young mans dream;

An iPad with dual-cameras, large speaker, and Retina screen!

Could there be more from MobileMe?

Who knows? Perhaps it may even be FREE!

Old tech in the past was bulky and slow.

But our eyes back then thought it was a show!

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

He spoke many words, and went straight to presentation,

And filled all the blogs; who then turned to temptation,

And laying his finger aside of touch screen,

And giving a wonderful iGleam, up the marketshare rose;

as the joyous conference came to a close.

And away they all worked for the next iDelight.

and I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight,

"Happy iPads to all, and to all a good-night."

Very. I have been anxiously waiting a year for the second-generation iPad. Here's to hoping it will as great as I'm predicting it to be. ;)

That was absolutely amazing. Thanks :D

Not trying to be an ass but I think you may have too much time on your hands... Clever though.

Not trying to be an ass but I think you may have too much time on your hands...

Well, IMHO, you did an EXCELLENT JOB of being an ASS! Slamming such creativity is beyond "being an ass".... You're just plain lame! Why would you bag on such an excellent piece of writing? What did you, or do you hope to gain? Sorry to go on...and on...just needless posts like that drive me up the wall....Bradleykent, Excellent Job! Disregard ********s like Goldin(sp?)boy! If Apple is looking...they could easily open tomorrow's presentation with your prose:) great stuff!

To the OP...I'm with ya! I would place my order now, sight unseen! And we've got two iPad 1's in the family now...I will buy one, and I'll order it as soon as I can. The iPad is easily the coolest piece of computing hardware I've purchased since my first iPhone. Absolutely couldn't live without it (kidding of course)...it's become an essential part of my business and my personal life....from organization, invoicing, email/facebook/linked in, entertainment for my wife, son and I when up at our cabin and it's too cold outside, portfolio for clients, my media, reading my mags and books, calendar, my news...so much of my daily life is inside my iPad. I'll always buy one of the new releases...it's just that good for my family...and my needs (wants:))...and although I own Mac laptops, the price of iPads are such that you can buy the high end one every year for 3 years and still be dollars ahead if compared to purchasing a new high end, decked out MBP...the iPad is a bargain in my very humble opinion.

Not going to lie I am super excited. The worst part is I am the only apple nerd amongst any of my friends so every time I mention being excited about it I just get funny looks.

I got the first iPad on launch and kept it about 6 months then sold it because I felt that having an iPad and MBP was redundant... but I have missed it so much I am going to get this new iPad and let my wife use the MBP while I use our iMac

Highly doubt anything apple did could disappoint me at this point.

Well thank you for defending me, although I wasn't too offended. With a post like this, you are bound to receive some criticism. So I wasn't that upset. BTW if Apple included this...my life would forever be complete!! Great Idea!!

So we all know that Apple is holding an event for this, but at what time?

PS: My first post here. :)

Typically, this site is excellent with live, play by play coverage. Last year, they also streamed an event live at apple.com...maybe a couple times now (live video streams). Regardless, this site is pretty cool on launch/press conference days with a live, no refresh ticker! Tune in @ 9:55!

^^ yeh! what you said!

i shall be purchasing the low end 3G model - because i HATE myself for not getting the 1st gen 3G!

It's funny because I'm the opposite of you! I bought the 3G since SOOOO many people said "oh you gotta get the 3G... blah blah blah" ... stupid me gave in and got it, and since launch day I have paid for AT&T 3G a grand total of TWO times. LOL. I use the WiFi and learned that's all I need personally. :eek:

I'm hoping to use the [rumored but probably true] new hotspot feature in the upcoming iOS update for my AT&T iPhone, so the occasional time I need to connect my iPad to the internets I can do it that way. :p

well, UNFORTUNATELY for me (and aussies) we do not really have the pleasure of having hundreds of wireless hotspots provided by our telco's, nor do we really have any truely free wifi hot spots. i do a LOT of driving (and live in a remote area) so being able to keep my IM/email accounts signed in whilst driving will be a very welcome change :)

As soon as my tax refund comes in, THEN I'll be excited. Until then, it's a waiting game. ARRGH.

I'm super excited. no webcam on the first iPad was a deal breaker for me (I use Skype alot) but hopefully that will be rectified today.
Also looking forward to ditching my android phone that I do alot of websurfing on. I hate that more and more everyday. Piece of buggy, lagging crap.

Fingers crossed it will have a worldwide release ASAP after the announcement.

After having the iPad for more than 8 months, the novelty have wore off.
Here's the reason --> Why I don't need the iPad 2...

I also recently bought a MacBook Air (11 inch even!) and while it's amazing how portable it is, the iPad really has something special when it comes to consumption style computing. If the novelty wore off, you simply are not the kind of person who does much all day but use their computer for work.

The iPad is the magazine of today. It is a piece of science fiction made into reality, it gives us countless forms of entertainment in a device the size of a magazine. I wouldn't want to do very much work on it, but it completely kills the laptop when it comes to certain things. I would not want to show off photos to friends on my laptop, but an iPad is very easy to pass around and can be easily flipped to the orientation that the photo was taken. I wouldn't want to read a novel on my laptop, yet the iPad works great in that way. I could go on but I have more important things to say here.

The MacBook Air is the work computer of today. It is small, light weight, yet still has a decent amount of power to do pretty much all the normal tasks people need for working. There is no replacing the full size keyboard and USB ports, or even the option to hook it up to a big display for even more work space.

I would not replace one with the other, and it doesn't seem like Apple wants people to do that either. When the iPad was announced they made a big deal to say that it was a new market that was between a smartphone and a laptop, and they were exactly right.

Retrospective

When Apple came up with the first iPod, they were not the first mp3 player on the market, but they made a device that worked like people expected with it's easy to use controls+interface, could sync way more music than other mp3 players, and could still fit inside your pocket (other hard drive players couldn't). It brought the mp3 player to the mainstream when previously it was just a niche market.

When Apple came up with the iPhone, they were not the first smart phone on the market, but they made a device that was easier to use, and had a real web browser, which could access the real internet. They came up with the app store so that the internet could be brought to the device in new and exciting ways. It was the first true internet smart phone for the people, and not just for business users.

When Apple came up with the iPad, they were not the first e-reader on the market, but they made a device that was easier to use, had a full color display, could do real internet functions like the iPhone could, and paired it with the app store so it was extendable way beyond basic e-reader functions. It really proved that people wanted to do more than read books on e-readers. What the future holds for the iPad is still not certain, but it has already shown us that the "digital magazine" is a real product that people want.

----

So do I want the new iPad? Yes, I think I do. It is just a question of if I will have the money for it or not.

I'm excited! :D
Just about decided to get one, just need a really cool feature to tip me over the edge and get one for sure.

Let's just hope the Australian prices come out alright!
You, me and the rest of the Apple supporters in Australia hope :D

I'm excited, but I don't think I need to be. The only way I think i'll get this is if they lower the entry price because the resell value of my 32 gig is down almost 200 bucks and I just can't see myself selling for 450 and then paying 50 more bucks for a reduction of 16 gb and a couple cameras.
