So how much will the iPhone 4 cost me? I got a 3GS a few weeks after release. My upgrade date was 11.10 last time I checked last week.

I just got the same message! Can't log onto the webpage because it is down, so I can't check the date. I received my 3gs on the release date last year. I'm ordering my new one :) Thought I was going to have to play the game of adding another line, but guess not.

I'm in the same boat. I got my 3GS on launch day last year, but it is telling my I am not eligible until 2-20-11! We have a family plan that cost $180 a month and I am the primary account holder. We are on auto-pay, so no bill has ever been paid late. Any ideas anyone? I really want this phone but I am not spending $500 on it when everyone who did the same thing as I is getting it subsidized.

I got my iPhone 3GS on launch day, and I spend about $80/month after taxes, and ATT says I'm eligible for an upgrade on 11/22/2010...

Hoping for that to change based on these other replies

WRONG... i bought my phone on launch day but my upgrade date is 2/20/11. I have a family plan and i'm the primary number but neither mine or my wife's phone is elligible. I know people that have the same deal as me, pay the same amount and got there's on the same day and they were elligible. This whole thing is making me rather upset. I called AT&T and was on the phone with 3 different people (seeing how the first two put me on hold and the OF COURSE the call dropped... thanks AT&T)... and none of them could tell me why i wasn't elligble and how most times at least the primary phone number in a family plan is ellible in the 12-18 month range (those who got there's pushed to June) instead of the typical 18-22... They said they use a VERY complex formula involving 150 different variables and it was impossible to tell why mine wasn't elligible. They kept asking if I had changed this or that in my account, missed any payments, or upgraded anything... I signed up on day 1 for auto payments and haven't touched my account since. I really wish it was more transparent... but its definitley not as simple as... person A's bill is $XXX.XX and person B's is $YYY.YY so thats why A is lucky and B is getting hosed.

rant over....

Sorry, didn't mean to piss you off. :(

but yeah, we are generalizing here a bit too much...but it's the best we can do. So many people asking us to answer their questions when AT&T can't even answer them. Doing the best we can w/ limited resources.

What if it says " I can buy one at full retail" will i be able to sign for 2 years and get $399 or am I stuck with $599

$599

An FYI for anyone interested best buy has a trade in program bestbuy.com/tradein and they gave me a gift card for $322 for my 32gig 3GS

I'm the primary account holder, but my wife's number is the primary line. As such, she's eligible for a standard upgrade whereas I'm not even though we both got the 3GS at the same time.

If the line is $100 a month, the primary number is eligible after a year. Less than $100, it is 18 months. However, anyone eligible in 2010 will be eligible this month.

I'm eligible for an upgrade now, since I bought an iPhone 3G last March.

However, why people worry/complain/etc. about these upgrades is beyond me. At this point it is common knowledge there will be a new iPhone in July (a bit early, this time) and new iPods in September. This, and two-year contracts, means that you either acknowledge that you will sometimes have to pay full price for the hardware.

If you bought a 3G/3GS at least 18 months ago, you should be okay.

How can you tell if you are eligible or not? My ATT page says this:

As a valued AT&T customer, this line qualifies for discounted equipment pricing when you sign a new 2-year commitment.

And has a checkbox to pick phones.

Does this mean I'm eligible? If so thats strange cause my plan is $87 a month and I bought my iPhone 11 months ago.

i bought 3gs on launch day, and I am not eligible for upgrade either. Lets hope AT&T is going to update the remaining accounts before jun 24th. Otherwise I am going with BB - estimated Gift card value for 3gs 16gb is $282.00.

Thx, Knowimagination.

Says you are...then you are.

This is another way of saying it's an early upgrade at a reduced discount, not a full discount.

Give them time. Over the last week, AT&T seems to have been slowly moving up peoples' upgrade date. Mine was originally in November, but was moved to "now" over the weekend. If you're lucky, they'll get around to you, soon. :(

On the other hand, I am in a similar situation: we have a family plan, and my wife and I got our 3GS's on launch day last year (at the same time). However, I'm eligible, but her phone is still listed as being in February. I'm still lost as to how two phones bought at the same time can have two different eligibility dates (this was still true before AT&T moved up the dates -- the original dates were November and February, and the dates are now "now" and February).

I'm in the same boat, I bought my 3GS on launch day and yet my upgrade date is 2/20/11. It is still a while till the 24th comes around so hopefully AT&T bumps mine up by then, otherwise I would have to use my moms upgrade.

That's because the primary line get's billed @ $50/month for voice + $30/month for data + $x/month for shared texting.

The secondary line is billed @ $10/month + $30/month for data.

The difference in the way the 2 lines in a family plan is billed causes the primary line to become eligible early. Secondary lines will almost never get an early upgrade.

The new phone is nice, but personally I will wait until the network is upgraded. For now the 3GS is pretty impressive for my use.

Tell AT&T your 3Gs was stolen/lost. Ask them about your options - they will let you get the iPhone 4 as long as you start a new 2 year contract.

I'm eligible now, which surprised me, since I bought my 3GS in July (our bill is $100+ month before taxes, if that matters). I'm not going to jump on it, though. I'm pretty happy with what I've got, and if I upgrade, my husband will want to upgrade as well (I'm assuming we're both eligible... I'm the primary line, so maybe I'm the only one eligible) and I don't want to pay that kind of money right now!

You may be the only one eligible. A lot of family plans are turning out that way. You may want to give your upgrade to your husband....if he's a good boy. :p

That makes sense, but that still doesn't explain the almost 19-months to eligibility, instead of 18. (Or, maybe AT&T uses 18 full billing cycles and ignores the partial first one??)

Think you answered your question.

i JUst call AT&T and they would not talk to me about the upgrade and told me i have to hit *NEW# and then i will receive the info. And then they told me to go to a store and waste more time b/c they would be able to help me a little bit further.
this is so stupid from AT&T

Don't blame them, they are being bombarded. If I see another "AT&T said my upgrade date is xx/xx/xxxx...what does that mean?" post I think I'm going to slam my head into my keyboard!
