Old (10.5) Exposé in Snow Leopard [Solution]

Jailbreaking the iPhone is not piracy. Taking Apple software (even from a beta), modifying it, and re-releasing it is piracy.

I'm pretty sure it would be illegal if the Dev Team decided to redistribute files from a beta iPhone OS (or any iPhone OS for that matter).

Breaking the EULA isn't breaking the law. However, re-distributing copyrighted material is against the law. I really don't give a crap, I was just mentioning that it's probably against the forum rules. What's even worse is that it's not even release-code. It's from a beta that was/is under NDA.

Do whatever you want, cause I don't care.

You should add /Volumes/ before the actual path. Like this:

sudo chown -R root /Volumes/BASE/USER/Desktop/Dock.app

In fact it is because it's the same as breach of contract. Apart from that you're messing around with Apple's software and thus Apple's copyright which means you're breaking the law. In the end it's just breaking the law but most people don't care because they just want the old Leopard dock/expose back.

Its so good to have an EXPOSE that functions as it should ( sans hidden windows )

As noted in the previous posts - the contextual menus go back to WHITE / as in Leopard 10.5. Has anyone figured out a way to get the menus BACK TO BLACK ? ? ?

I'll gladly trade that feature though to forgo those pesky minimized windows popping up !

no probs! i dont think it can be done tho, the black translucent menus are hard coded into the Dock.

I don´t think a copyright is being violated. I know you prefer the new exposé, but you might know there is a few threads with MANY people complaining about how they lost functionality and wish they could use the "old" exposé.

An option exist and that´s what matters.

I never said I was against the old Exposé, I was just putting up a warning that's all.

Also, what makes you think no copyright is being violated? Just wondering...

Must say that I'm not using Expose much at all these days..

Must be a combination of Snow Leopard's Expose putting me off using it, and the 4 finger horizontal swipes. Even with Leopard's Expose installed on my Snow Leopard machine, I still find myself not using it as much as I used to.

Ive been using expose less and less with SL because I couldnt find windows as easily as before.

As for the 4 finger swipe, try using the top-right corner. Its like a 1 finger swipe.
 
Thanks swapping the Dock.app worked for me!

I was about to stop using expose because the Snow Leopard way required me to read the label on each icon. The windows were too small and looked too much alike for me to tell which window I wanted at a glance.

The old expose works so much better! I can't explain it really, but when I look at the relative sizes of the windows, I can tell which window I want instantly!

I wish this was a preference setting in expose preference panel.

It worked great, my dock disappeared for a while but now everything is fine. I can finally start using expose again.

Thanks to the OP for this, and thanks to all involved. Exposé has become essential to my workflow and I was ready to revert back to 10.5 to get the normal functionality back. As far as I'm concerned, Exposé is broken in SL -- unusable with stickies, as countless others have pointed out. Anyway, thanks again!

And TheSpaz, it's trolls like you that ruin the Internet.

I've noticed that my mbp seems to be more laggy lately.. and I think I've only noticed it after changing my dock up. Any one else experiencing this?

In specific, seems like the _windowserver process seems to be using a constant 12% CPU even when everything is idle. Is there any relation?

Well, that's the kind of stuff you have to deal with when you're coming old beta code with final code. It doesn't surprise me that you're experiencing bugs like that.

I took a look. When idle, the _windowserver is around 0.4-1.4% (it jumps to 1.1% when typing this message). If I turn Expose on it jumps to 4-6% and if I do it a lot, repeatedly and with a lot of windows it will jump to 12% but then drop back down once Expose is established.

What Build version are you using?
 
I was using the original leopard dock in post 1.

I've switched back to the SL Dock for now and things seem a little quicker.
