CS can be iffy. Not all IDE cables support cable select, and on some that do support it the center connector is the master and the end connector is the slave.

I don't know about Apple OEM cables, and haven't experimented(I guess I should do that one of these days). In any case, I just go ahead and set up the HDDs in my G4s as master and slave as appropriate rather than messing around with cable select.

If anyone has any information on whether or not the OEM Apple IDE cables are set up for cable select, I'd be interested to know.
