1999 b/w

1999 B/W Power Mac G3. I upgraded the processor to a 1GHz G4 in 2003, and put an ATI Radeon 128MB PCI card in the graphics slot in 2005. I also put 230GB worth of HDs in the early 2000s in a concatenated disk configuration (that's the largest it can take). Wireless card + a USB 2.0 card.

It runs the last O/S it can run - Tiger 10.4. It's my iTunes and backup server. I use it every day and I will use it until it cannot be used anymore. I'm shooting for it to be my iTunes server for 20 years! So, 2019. It's beat all the odds already, so...

Interested to see how long some peoples Mac's have been running.

I've got a power mac G3 that's just passed it's 15 birthday, and while it doesnt see much use, it still works pretty flawlessly! (doesn't wake from sleep sometimes).. Many fun years as a kid with Prince of Persia 2 on this one

I have 2 original 512 Macs - one still running (when I want a ride in the Wayback Machine) - the other one's been gutted & fitted with a small glass aquarium tank - like an original screensaver only live.

My other old pyramid of doom is a PM8600 fitted with an aftermarket G4 processor card that I use on a daily basis to run a photo processor in my darkroom.

Plus I still have a circa '07 ][+ thats sitting around still in working order.

I still use my Cube from time to time. I've replaced the hard drive with an SSD and upgraded the video card. It's great for writing, because it's absolutely silent.

Not a PowerPC Mac - well, not a Mac at all! I've got an Apple IIc, built in 1983. It was bought without a power supply & was sold as untested. I got my old crocodile clips out, found the pin-out for the power supply, hooked it up to the car battery - et voila!

My oldest Mac that functions: My 1983-manufactured original Macintosh.

My oldest Apple product that functions: Newly-acquired Apple ][+, manufactured 1980.

My oldest "used on a fairly regular basis" Apple product: iMac G4 (mid-2002, 17", 800 MHz, the last iMac that could boot into OS 9.) It sits right next to my "daily use" computer, a mid-2007 Aluminum iMac.

Old Power Mac

Hello,

At work we have an old Power Mac 9600/200. It never gets switched off and is used most days for an old version of Art Pro to vectors bitmaps sometimes. Must be about 17 years old, it'll be a sad day when it conks out.

Cheers,

Ray

I've recently discovered that a RAM chip has gone kaput in my Macintosh Classic. :( So, that means my oldest working Mac at the moment is a 14-year old Clamshell iBook G3.

(But I do have an Apple IIc from '84 in perfect working order, if that counts. :D)

I'm currently installing Panther on a 266mhz PDQ. Just got it the other day. Pretty snappy with OS9, but i dont have the correct disc. A Powermac install runs like crap on the PDQ.

Love it! Y'all have some cool kits running!

I guess I will put mine in here as well! First up:

next:

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_classic/specs/mac_colorclassic.html

Both are in full working order, but I am lacking an keyboard and mouse for them both, so for now they sit on either side of my desk running screen savers when I turn them on.

Then we jump to this:

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powerbook_g4/specs/powerbook_g4_1.5_15.html

Which is my main laptop. I wish I could get it to 2 gigs, but I think it has a bad ram slot. Does not matter what make/speed chip I try to throw in, I will see 1.5 gig or 2 gig for a few days and then back to 1! But she still works beautifully, and I scored 2 after market batteries for under $100 bones that should be here in the next few days. So that is awesome.

I miss my older kits, My first was a IIc, I ran threw the pizza boxes, the performas, I jumped to the 8600, a G3/333 mini tower and on to a DA Dual/533 I still wish I never got ride of. A dual G5. 1.8 that was a great machine to my current 1.83ghz mini and the other rigs in my sig.

I had a pb 180 and 180c, 520, 540, 540c, 5300, 1400cs, wally, lombard, iBook G3/500, 800 and 900 ( I really miss that little beast.) PB G4/500 and 550.

Never had the chance to play with the clamshells or the MMD series much, though I had a few QS's along the way. All fun times ;)

Thanks for the thread, it was nice to remember it all, think I might take a look at eBay for a keyboard and mouse for my bookends, it would be fun to get them up and going again ;)

I'm still using my iBook 600 from 2001, in fact I just wrote this post on it.

Now, it's no MacBook Pro, but when it comes to browsing I use webkit for 10.4 and it works great. Unfortunately TenFourFox brings this G3 to its knees.

I also have a 17in iMac G4 that actually still works great, was playing youtube videos on it the other day, 360p works well... anything else and it starts to slow down. Using leopard webkit on that one as well as it allows me to use Safari extensions to block ads and use H.264 for youtube videos.

or try xbmc with youtube plugin, I can run perfect smooth HD content on it on my powerbook. Best of all, it uses .flv so you get ALL youtube content.
At least 420p should be fine on a 1Ghz machine

I got a 2004 PowerBook 15" 1Ghz and a 2005 PowerBook G4 DLSD/HR 1.67Ghz. Love 'em...

G4 MDD. 2 GB RAM. HD Capacity 76.69Gb, available 2.96 Gb, used 73.73 Gb on disk. Ruining OS 10. 5.8. Dual processor 1Ghz, power pc G4, 1 Mb L3 cache per processor.

ati radeon 9000 pro, chipset model ATY,RV250, Cinema display 1680 x 1050, depth 32 bit color.

Not really sure what's all those means are but running good. The fan is loud, had to replace one after it died, mmmm missing plug in, and can't update to use some Web page....

I'm thinking about buying Mac book pro to replace this however... then thinking of what to do with the G4?

You could try linux on it... I have Debian running on an old iBook G3 and it works great, especially considering it's from 2000. Only problem I can't get past is 3D Graphics Acceleration in the old 8MB ATI Rage Mobility 128 it has. Though given that it's such a weak card, I can't imagine it being that big of a game changer. The last OS that could run on my iBook is Tiger, albeit much slower than Debian runs, even without 3D graphics acceleration.

My Performa 6320CD from '96-97 still works and I can play all of the old mac games on it which I was never able to enjoy while they were still "big"
