The persistence of the word "film" where no actual film is involved always struck me as odd. We also have the handy word "video" to describe the current media. The term "tape" also persists for no apparent reason, which is weird, since hardly anyone under the age of 40 has even touched a reel of tape.

Reel is tape exists in cassette tapes as well which would frequently be pulled from worn tape decks. Something my 36yr old sister is quite acustomed to.

I'd say 30yrs or younger is a better estimate.

No, it is not the same. I have one of these ebay/amazon kits and they are cheap quality compared to more expensive options that I also have. I am not saying that I would pay $200, but you need to compare products of equal quality.

These two products are absolutely comparable. The price is the major difference, not the plastic. That's also if you just want to look at the clip functionality and not that it actually has a case that you can attach the lenses to.

Well, I have a Leica M8 for when I want to take great pictures (yeah I know, the M9 is better and Leica wishes the M8 were never made) and I have a Canon 6D for when I want to take great video (blah blah, the 5D3 is better, yeah I get it). I have an iPhone to make calls and take normal, everyday photos of my pets, garden, and other situations where timeless photographs and video sequences aren't in play.

So a set like this, coming from someone who is somewhat more than an amateur photographer/videographer, is pretty pointless from where I'm standing. About the only time I can think it would be useful is if you're traveling light and don't want to pay extra for a carry on bag, i.e. Ryanair.

As I told you, it doesn't matter that they are both made of plastic. iPhone and Android phones are made of similar parts, but they are different in quality and functionality.

Right, cassettes are tape too. I haven't bought one of them in I can't remember how long.

Taping and filming are words that have outlived the things they actually describe. They are kind of rare. I can think of only one other, off the top of my head.

Woh woh. Let's not forget this fine, competitively priced product is from Olloclip, a company with great 'provenance'.

OK, it's a kit for iPhone. So why is the Go Pro mount in there? Seems like filler to me. Even worse, it's filler you literally can't use unless you happen to also own a Go Pro. I think this set was meant to be for Father's Day and they were late. Surely these won't work in the iPhone 8.
