OMG... antenna ISSUE Shocks you if your hand is slightly Damp!

Do you hold your phone out in the rain normally? Most electronic devices aren't waterproof.

Normally I don't agree with these complaint threads. While i haven't had this issue I must say. I got to the gym most days per week and i take my iPhone as do many other members.

Thinking the only time anyone touches a phone is when their hand is completely dry is crazy.

Don't drinking the kool-aid dude. This is a serious problem. Why else do you think external antenas have come and gone before?

Are you talking about the collapsable antennas that were originally on cell phones? Seriously? They came because they gave superior reception. They went because they were ugly and people didn't like them....not because of any issues like we are seeing here.

I decided to see if slightly 'damp' hand would play an extra part in completing this antenna circuit 'short' and I GOT SHOCKED!

It felt kinda like to sticking a 9v battery to your tongue, but not as strong!

Does anyone else feel this mild shock?!!!

So I haven't been experiencing this issue and I thought, perhaps my hands are too dry?

So shortly after washing my hands, they were damp but not wet, I used my phone and I still didn't experience the issue.

So here's my theory on this, the steel case has a coating of sorts to prevent corrosion and perhaps exactly this issue. So maybe the phones that are affected have a lack of that coating?

Wow lorenwade...

I have brought my phone out in the rain and used it with wet hands numerous times. I have also used many other "electronic" devices with wet hands and suprisingly they never shocked me. This is a serious concern.

Have you ever played for example video games for long hours? I'm sure that controller is "electronic" and when my hands get sweaty I don't expect to get shocked as a warning to dry off my hands.

They really should address the problem yet I still don't see how most of you have such sweaty hands and don't put on cases anyway just to keep moisture from seeping through and triggering the water sensors. If it is perspiring to were its dripping, then that's just nasty.

It won't affect me at all as I have my case on from day one with every phone I have owned going as far back as the Treo 600 (YUCK). No one is forcing me to get one, I just like the added protection that I have received from cases (otterbox has won me over) and to keep my phone in mint condition to sell on craigslist or ebay each year. :D

I think this is part of Apple's attempts to shun the fat, sweaty nerd demographic.

I applaud their efforts.

mmm. the shock effect, I just got shocked from my MacBook Pro charger.

Apple did send me a replacement on Tuesday though. The new design too.

If this were a serious problem the phone would have never made it through FCC testing.

FCC only worries about interference to other devices and adherence to the radio specs. They don't care if it bursts into flames and rapes nuns.

I'm an understandable person. This is understandable to a point.

"Whoa, my hands are wet... my phone isn't working properly."

Is the same as...

"Whoa, I dropped my phone... my phone isn't working properly."

A case solves both issues of which that are not the phone's fault, but simply prone to the environment. This is why cases exist for all phones. Especially smart phones. ;)

No, I do not think it's a serious concern. It's the nature of the device. Apple made it clear that the outside of the phone was part of the electronic structure of the phone: an antenna. A case solves this pure and simple.

No, we should not have to buy a case to use an electronic device but when special circumstances occur: damp hands, rain, dropping, scratching, etc... a case is viable.

Dude, just leave the thread already. Every pitiful argument you've made has been torn to shreds.

Hahahaha! Thanks for the laugh. ;)

Guys: I am a reasonable person and willing to debate this. Every phone has it's pros and cons and I will admit when I am wrong. I am not a prideful person. I give credit where credit is due. If you make a good point, I'll admit it and concede. I just don't think this is complaint worthy.

I have clammy hands and have noticed a small impulse. Not bad but annoying. Plus i cant find the bumpers anywhere to make it a bit better.

Idk for u guys but I have decently damp hands and I don't get shocked, Im pretty sure if your hand is drenched u wouldent be using ur phone any way.

I live in the deep south. Humidity has been very high the last couple of days. I've spent quality time outside in this environment at a Starbucks with damp paws trying to see how repeatable the LOS issue is and the only tingle I got was from sweat running down my leg.

From the "Things we understood in the 80's but forgot until now" department:

So a rubberized external cell phone antennae wasn't just a fashion statement?
