If it's an important call, and I'm siting on the crapper, it can wait. Nothing is that important.

Some things to call out:

"Dude thats foul, what the heck have you been eating? Ugh, my eyes are burning!"

"Roto Rooter, we need you to finish, we have to snake the lines."

"Is that toilet water out from under your stall? Is your toilet over flowing?"

"You may want to make a run for it, I had refried beans and Italian sausage for supper last night and the air is fixing to get thick in here!"

"Aahhh! Ohhhh, thats feels good. I don't think I've ever had to pee so bad in my whole life! Whew, my back teeth were floating!"

What about sending texts while on the loo? Pretty much every woman I know does that (no I haven't asked, but I don't know anyone* who would find this a disgusting concept).

*'anyone' = the group of people who I know and talk with in daily life, which does NOT include random strangers off the internet or puritanical americans or the remaining 99% of humanity.

For further bonus points, I've seen many people taking their laptops into the toilet.

Small computers for small rooms and contemplative moments.

You are what is ruining America.

(and I'm half serious).

I think you're right. It's inconsiderate people who are only concerned with their own agenda that are ruining our community and our country. Couldn't agree more.

That being said, I would argue that what's ruining America to a higher degree is people who can't lighten up and just let everyone do their thing. As I said, people are so caught up in their own comfort, that they do not realize this earth does not revolve around them. Yeah, this applies to me and what I do in the bathroom as much as it applies to you, but don't for a second think it doesn't apply to you. Is it really that big of a deal that you are hearing someone's conversation a few stalls over? In the long run, is that such a show-stopping social faux pas that you all need to vent about it to each other? Everything offends everyone nowadays - I see it at work, but I also see it in the community at large. Who am I hurting by talking to someone on the phone while in the restroom? Have you not ever seen someone you know in the restroom and struck up a casual conversation? What's the difference?

In my eyes, this is a really great example of the state of the country in general. People need to lighten up, let the world work like it's going to, and don't sweat the small stuff. Take a step back, and instead of observing what other people do to annoy you, try to observe what you do to annoy other people, try to make yourself better instead of trying to bring everyone up to your standards. For example: after this thread, I probably will discontinue my bathroom conversations, as I had no idea it bugged so many people. I stand by my principles, though.

Do we not all do things that annoy other people? You'd be lying if you answered this with a 'no' - all of you.

To each his own, Lee.

I've done it before. :p I like to bring my iphone with me to play games when i'm in the crapper. If my fiancee calls me, I'll answer it. I rather talk in the washroom than in the office since the office is open concept, there are no rooms other than the conference room, not even my boss. I don't talk loud though. :)

To each his own, Lee.

Excuse me, but no. Taking a loud crap while talking to someone on the phone is rude to the person other line, not to mention that no one in the bathroom wants to hear the conversation either.

To each his own? Fine- don't talk to me on the phone while taking a s***.

So we're only talking about loud craps here? I never take a loud one in public, it's too embarassing.

To each his own, Lee.

I think it's more that it shows a distinct lack of respect for both the person on the other end of the phone, and those trying to use the bathroom. I would really prefer that the bathroom remain a fairly private place.

Bathrooms tend to be rather echo-y places, too. I would rather not hear someone's phone conversation amplified by the acoustics of the bathroom. Doing business (literally, not euphemism) while on the toilet???? Wrong in so many ways.

Of course everyone does something that annoys another person. Anyone would be flat out lying to deny that. However, without a discussion such as this, would you have ever realized that many people are very annoyed by cell convos in the public restroom? It's hard to look inside yourself to improve your own actions when you think what you are doing is perfectly acceptable.

That's a whole 'nother topic! Embarrasing indeed - and I have always been curious as to why people feel so free to "let loose" so to speak, while in the public restroom. Save that dirty business for the privacy of your own home, thank you very much! :p

I always let the person know on the phone I'm taking a dump if they call. :D

Ditto. In the interest of full disclosure!

Good point. I would like to think that I would eventually have come to this conclusion myself (since I'm so high on my pedestal at this point, lol), but I'm not sure.

Loud ones are the most pressing though (so to speak).

Yeah. This happens at my office a lot. People in the stalls, talking on the phone. Like someone else said, I just try to embarrass them by going to the stall next to them and flushing the toilet. Hopefully, the person on the other end of the phone would hear it.

What I hate more, though, is being on the phone and the other person is on the toilet. That, I find rude and disgusting.

When you gotta go......

I can't get past the thought of someone grunting.

I see what you're saying about lightening up etc, but there should be certain standards of decorum and politeness that everyone abides by. This is one of them.

It is merely in tune with the times. Business these days requires that you drop unnecessary ballast with alacrity, while maintaining close lines of communications with your clients.
