In the camera settings there are „High Efficiency“ and „Most Compatible“. Which one do I have to activate to take good pictures?

About the same. Only difference is in size of pics/video that is saved on your phone. I use HE. In addition, if you have an older computer, then use MC. I back up to my iMac Pro, so HE is not an issue when transferring videos.

I have mine set as high efficiency but I use iCloud Photo Library and pay for the 2TB option? Do I need HE or can I opt for most compatible?

I have a lot of iCloud storage above free.

Eventually your 2TB will fill up, esp if you record video often. There is no downside (that i know of) to HE other than lack of compatibility with older hardware (Macs, PC).

My MBA is from 2014 but I don’t seem to have any issues viewing my photos? Is it compatible with macs from 2014?

I think viewing is fine. But when you try to transfer the photos to your Mac, then that is when you have issue, esp with video. But if you’re viewing from the iCloud, you’re good to go on any device.

For me, i am cheap...so, i store all my photos/videos locally on my iMac. I only use iCloud for my device backups.
