You're lacking any sense of logic here. Apple products were not perfect when he was alive either. I've had problems with several, and I'm very careful with them. There are things that are great about them, but they are not perfect, nor are they perfectly manufactured.
fengyue5bian, you are new to Apple products are you? Apple has released products with lots of flaws too. Imagine if you have bought a Titanium Powerbook G4 back in 2001 or a white iBook G3, I bet you'd have a stroke. Nothing is perfect, just accept that fact and don't stress yourself out.

Yes, there is probably a simple explanation. But compared to the experience most people here have with Apple service, the OP really had an unfriendly and incompetent genius.
I don't know that I would say incompetent. They replaced OP's computer, which is what should have happened. He just didn't have a good explanation of the battery cycles. No matter what store you go to, customer service is never 100% perfect. But in the end they did the right thing and replaced the computer.
I think the inappropriate comment about Steve Jobs really irked a lot of people. It did me. He was a great guy, but he was far from perfect. Mistakes happen. The problem is solved, so it's time to move on.
yes, and of course there are always two sides to each story. But there seemed to be two problems, battery cycles + hard drive noise, and at least from how the OP describes it, the genius tried to dismiss both as "being normal."
Yeah, that was indeed very odd
Clear signs of use...give me a break! We are talking about 9 battery cycles here. That is less than 1% of the battery's lifetime. Personally, I cannot understand people that get agitated by such things...there are way more important things to worry about.
I would. If the battery was indeed (and probably was) tested in manufacturing then its cycle count would have been reset in the eeprom before final assembly stage.
Mine had 0 cycles btw.
