I would prefer the 5MP to be in the front for great quality facetime...

Facetime does not need 5mp....

The VGA camera of the Iphone\Itouch is good enough...but I can see them going a bit better on the next iphone\Ipad front camera...

rear facing camera

How are we supposed to hold iPad when we take pictures using its rear facing camera? :D

I can see the front facing camera for all the facetime etc apps but the back facing camera IMO will be a bit pointless. For one simple reason. I bet every person who are carrying an iPad have a newish mobile phone with a camera already on it so will use that.

I don't.

A Fancy smart phone is of no use for me in my job.

Dont get smart xD I was just saying my opinion. Facetime on my iP4 is pretty good quality.. but really there is no point in a rear camera on an iPad (that I can think of!)

When you are in the coffee shop and your friend (or a new friend) is chatting to you, you can simply lift up the iPad which you have of the table (you were reading a book) take a photo of them, and add the snap against their contact details.

Job done.

iPad back-side camera? Useless...

I honestly don't see too many people lifting their iPad to take pictures or whatever else it will be used for. However, as I type this some loon is thinking how cool it would be to lift the iPad to snap a pic...

The one use I can see is apps using the camera to generate alternate environments using the camera and positioning data from the GPS chip and wireless signals. I guess that could become a legitimate use. With that said, how many of the already 5 millions plus iPad users would even use the back-side camera for that.

Pictures with iPad, what next...iMacs with back-facing cameras:rolleyes:

You know exactly why and it's been said so many times on many forums

Apple leaves things out they COULD have done to give you more reasons to upgrade to the next model.
partially this
And, why didn't Apple just release it with a camera in the first place? I mean, they had the room, they had the technology, they had the motive...

How many people are going to be flocking to the Apple store to plunk down a huge chunk of change (after the GOP gets started ravaging the country again) for the latest toy this time.

Sooner or later, as the economy is bound to get worse and not better, it's going to have a pronounced negative effect on Apple and for that matter many other companies. There is no way, even with their massive tax cuts saved, that the rich alone can support Apple and the economy in general. Especially if the extremely regressive National Sales Tax being discussed in hushed tones on the right comes to fruition...

however apple would A) never reveal future products which it would have done by adding the cameras in the iPad you would come to expect the face time camera in iP4 and iPt4 (B) it would be shooting yourself in the foot to lay all your cards out

iPhone is there premiere device and technology is going to be shown there first!

p.s. i doubt the economy will ever stay in one place or go only down or only up history shows thats not ever the case...the less you spend the worse it gets.

Increase MP, increase bandwidth requirements?

I would prefer the 5MP to be in the front for great quality facetime...

A sensor capable of capturing a 5MP picture wouldn't be required for this type of application, am I right? I mean to say, if the front-facing camera's primary application is facetime interaction, wouldn't the extra capturing density of a 5MP sensor cause bandwidth issues and in essense cheapen the facetime experience to the point of annoyance?

This is stupid:

likely will support Apple's FaceTime video chat software

Doy, really?!

In what messed up scenario would it ship with two cameras but not support FaceTime? They're adamant there will be two cameras, but they're iffy on FaceTime. They must be professional analysts.

Until someone provides Flash, I'm not going anywhere near this gimped Internet device again.

Picture this.

The iPad is a family device, the type of device you have downstairs, and use in the evening, sitting back on the sofa.

Your kids are having some fun, perhaps a play fight, making funny faces, or perhaps even your dog or cat is doing something funny for a few seconds.

You raise your iPad and can capture this priceless footage without going to get your camera, or looking around for where you left your mobile.

Given the iPad is the device most lightly to be at hand in the evening when you are relaxing, it's more lightly you will may capture those rare funny moments with it, which would be gone by the time you had found another device to record the moment with.

Useful, but clunky...

I understand the iPad being a multifunction device that is a joy to use, but not a camera...never...too clunky and...I don't know just strange if you ask me.

Aren't we in the first quarter of 2011 for Apple? I thought they used a different system than most and were a quarter ahead. Or maybe I have no idea what I am talking about.

Holding an iPad.

How are we supposed to hold iPad when we take pictures using its rear facing camera? :D

Like a dang fool. :D I think we should make the back-side of the iPad waterproof so we can use it as an umbrella in bad weather

I am going to wait for iPad v2 so I can get that feature...:)

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

No 7 inch... Sad

I think I would upgrade for this. Facetime with the family is very tempting for me.

As for the back camera, also facetime to switch over, but more so AR. Star Walk comes to mind.

Why does everyone want more RAM? Are your current iPads running slowly?

Ever see the camera Ansel Adams carried on his back into the mountains? Lifting an iPad to take a picture is still lighter than lifting my Nikon D-90. I wouldn't carry an iPad around just to use it as a camera, but if it's the only camera equipped device available when the perfect picture presents itself, I wouldn't think twice about using it.

Fiscal quarters for economic reports are different than calendar quarters. If Apple follows normal refresh habits, the second version of the iPad will be announce and ship around the same dates as the first— previewed late winter, ship in early spring.

The recent deluge of Verizon iPhone rumors which say the CDMA phone would ship as early as January suggest that the iPhone 5 launch, normally in June, might be earlier so that both models have parity on features.

If this is true, I will finally jump in with the iPad camp. Facetime capability is a must for me before I'll buy one. My kids use this feature to video chat with grandma and grandpa 3000 miles away. It's priceless.
