This is not new technology. It is the same technology that has been around for a couple of years now. The only difference is it is triggered with contextual triggers instead of a specific command, and they added some extra triggers/commands. While yes it is nice (to a degree), it's hardly anything new.

It's new in the way it's implemented. It interacts with far more within the phone than anything out there to date.

It's not hyped at all. Come on guys, you won't be saying that once they add more functionality to it...heck it's still in beta...you have to start somewhere then build it into other applications.

this. it's still a beta and it's something that they seem to already have perfected compared to other companies. i wouldn't say it's overhyped by apple, but it's overhyped by the iphone users.

Jeez...they had a media event and then ran a bunch of TV commercials.

8 or 9? Really?

Was there a Michael Bay movie starring Siri as the hero that saved the earth that I missed? A McDonalds happy meal Siri toy? A blimp over a sporting game? Because all THAT might be a 9.

How do you get 8 or 9 off of some TV ads?

10.

Siri is a defective beta product that was touted as one of the main improvements in the upgrade.

For me personally, I don't think it was over-hyped at all. It was a completely new feature that adds a lot of functionality to the iPhone if you care to use it. I had an Android at the time and thought it was cool enough to look for an Android alternative (they're out there, btw, though not quite as integrated or functional based on the few apps I tried out).

I am on day number two with my iPhone 4S. Yesterday I used it to create a reminder for myself, set two countdowns while I was cooking dinner, and two quick text conversations in the car. I thought it was very useful and there are things that I will now use it exclusively for. Setting reminders in it really couldn't be more intuitive.

My wife gets endless entertainment from abusing Siri and trying to get her to say stupid or profane things, so from that standpoint alone it has value. ;)

Again, like I said they added more commands basically but it's not new at all. As stated previously they used contextual triggers instead of direct triggers and gave it more commands. Is it new? Heck no.

I give it an 8 or 9. It does work for VERY basic commands, but it's not useful. It doesn't simplify or make my life any easier. In fact, I see it as just an added effort for things I could already do with my eyes closed and half asleep.

Could I live without it now, after having it for months, and not miss it? Yeah, certainly. In fact, that may be another question; would your life be disrupted or would you miss Siri if it just instantly disappeared?

Granted it's not new technology, but its new in the sense of being on the mobile platform the way it interacts. Majority of people know the tech has been out (Blackberry...."Say a command") But apple took it and enhanced the hell out of it.

I would rate it a 5 for now. I use it mostly for reminders...appointments...occasional google searches ect. As far as using it for doing emails, texts.....nope. Ohhhh i forgot....I use it to call people lol

I spend a ton of time traveling for work and a significant amount of that time is behind the wheel of a car so for me Siri is great. I'd say probably a 3 as being able to set appointments, and reply briefly to emails and text messages is a huge benefit to me.

Obviously I understand that not everyone has the same needs I do, so I can see how a lot of people will say it's extremely overhyped. I would like to see some extensive in app Siri use, as well as deeper phone integration.

Exactly, I use Siri in the car when I'm piping music from my phone to the speakers and want to change a playlist or album. And then to set reminders and alarms. And replying to texts.

It's also great for replying to forum posts while sitting on the toilet.

;)

Solid 8. It's not the most accurate thing in the world. The whole "it's in beta" excuse is BS. Why in gods name would a company produce commercial after commercial touting a feature on a phone like it's this major breakthrough, land users hook line and sinker, then when it fails the fanboys run in and scream "beta, it's not suppose to work all the time". Well then don't advertise it.

As I suspected, Siri, much like facetime, is a cool thing to show your friends at a cocktail party, REAL world application is still lacking for the majority of it's users. Like facetime, in a year it will blend in with being just something the phone can do, not a major feature. Why? Cause it just doesn't work that well.

Siri doesn't work for me 30% of the time. "Network error"

But it's in beta so I'll give them some time.

If they don't fix it within 3, it seriously was over-hyped.

I'm not really sure, I don't really follow products or hypes, so I have no idea.

But I find Siri useful, for alarms, reminders, looking up a restaurant.

And she has no problem hearing my voice and getting every word correct, unless I speak too fast.

I think some people got there hopes up too much about it, and thought it was going to be able to cook them dinner or something. Not sure if that's how Apple marketed it?

But I find Siri to be fun and useful. People will always complain.

I agree with this. The funny thing is I don't see any major company advertising a flagship product with a "beta" feature. Apple knows they can't advertise the superior camera feature because it wouldn't sell many phones. Now, I'm not saying the fanboys wouldn't buy the 4s, hell I'd still buy the 4s if siri didn't existed. But apple is not targeting the fanboys, they already have our business. Apple can build anything and the fanboys will buy it regardless of the reviews. Apple is targetting those customers it doesn't have yet, the andriod customers, those who are not sure what phone to get.

Personally I don't see a problem with facetime I actually use it. The feature works great, no problems at all with me. The only problem are the carriers who refuse to let users facetime through 3g. Apple can't do anything about that.

I was somewhat impressed till I got my Nexus.:p

I feel similarly about many of the features of my Nexus. Facial detection security, sweet! Oh wait it doesn't really work most of the time... Voice commands, ooo how luxurious. Oh nope I didn't want to search for that.... err...

I feel like a lot of these features are mostly marketing gimmicks, siri included. Maybe in the future they'll be worth while for practical uses.

I have found it to be near useless. It takes so long to communicate with servers that I could have pulled up whatever app (weather calender etc) I needed and finished well before siri tells me she can't understand my request.

Out of 10, I give it a 9 for overhyped. Definitely played no part in my decision to upgrade to the 4s.

I don't see why it's not on the 4.

I agree. Maybe someday?
