Can we please get some pictures of this? Like an iPad Air with this defect on the home screen, watching a video, on a web page, or viewing a photo? I need to see to believe, and nobody has posted any evidence of this being such a grievous issue.

Cameras wouldn't be able to render the issue correctly. Just go to your local Apple store, open up Safari and split the keyboard in portrait mode. One side will be yellower than the other. The problem is both sides are supposed to be white.

7 iPads? Either you're really unlucky, or you're just seeing things. Did you notice this yellow tint during normal usage, or were you just looking for these problems with a plain white screen?

Yeah, he's just seeing things. Him and 20+ pages of other people discussing the same issue in another thread here, and a multiple page thread on apple's own support forums.

I too have hallucinated a bunch of Airs with the same problem. 3 of my own. Every one I looked at in 2 Apple stores in 2 cities. One in Best Buy. And 2 at Tekserve in NYC.

It's useless trying to explain the issues with some people. I don't even consider myself "OCD" or particularly picky. I'm just an average consumer who expects a uniform screen

And judging from some of the posts on here, it appears it's a wise decision. Most people probably don't notice or care.

I can't speak for others but with the two I've had so far, if you use the notes app, read web site like MacRumors, read a book or use the settings on your ipad, you will see it.

My wife is super easy going with stuff like this and even she saw it unprompted.

It's hilarious when Apple support act like they haven't had one single complaint with this issue.

There are no caveats when it comes to the two tone screen, it's simply nothing more than unacceptable.

Reminds me of the guy that goes to see his doctor and says ‘Doc, it hurts when I do this” and the doctor says “Then don’t do that”....

If a camera can't render the issue correctly, then I'm going to assume it's so imperceptible as to not be a real problem. I played with 2 iPad Airs, and have never noticed a problem on any iPad. You guys are looking to be disappointed.

Or,

Guy goes to the dentist and says "My teeth are getting yellow."

Dentist says "Wear a brown tie".

mcdj a few posts above yours just provided a link with some camera captures that are pretty much spot on. But you can continue on assuming whatever you want to. You know what they say about people who assume....

As others have stated, there is no reason we should be putting up with this. If you can't see the problem after just "playing" with 2 units, then I'm happy for you and I'd give you a pat on the back if I could. But, for those of us who've purchased a unit with cold, hard cash, it's just simply an unacceptable problem for a device that purports to have a state of the art screen.

I only mentioned the split keyboard as a way to see the issue the easiest. As others have mentioned, you can also go in settings and compare the white on the left side to the white on the right side. Or you can use the notes app. Or you can read an ebook in the Kindle app.

Split keyboard in portrait mode? Ummmm, no.

Way to completely miss the point. You don't even need to split the keyboard. Just look at the keyboard in portrait mode. Those with bad screens will see that the left half of the keyboard is a dirty yellow compared to the right half.

I'm not even a picky guy, as I said before. I love how so many of us use our wives as the quintessential non-techy-and-therefore-wouldnt-spot-an-issue types, but even MY wife noticed this.

OP, are you saying that in everyday use one side of your screen is more yellow?

Or do you have to bring up a white screen to see it.

Post a screenshot of your situation so we all can see just exactly what the offending issue is...

Does this issue affect normal use?

It does affect normal use. No need to post a screenshot since others have already. Does it REALLY bother me? No, not really. Is it noticeable? Yes, especially on sites like Macrumors where it's primarily a white color.

bc she probably thinks you're crazy being on your 7th iPad so she has to agree. Wouldn't 3 strikes and you're out be enough? Why 7? Why not go 8? Why not go 10? Anything above 3 is just OCD for most I would think.

Why 7? Because maybe I actually NEED an iPad? And the fact that I'm not getting a decent screen for something I need is very frustrating. Not that difficult to understand.

Did you miss the part where I said "Either you're really unlucky..."?

Stop replying to me, please. Thank you :)

I may or may not speak for others when I say that continuing to keep exchanging iPads partly stems from a disbelief that Apple would release a product so inherently compromised. To those that see, notice, and care about this issue, it's quite glaring and rather disheartening.

Given that the iPad is basically a big fat screen, that its first and foremost purpose is to deliver content on that screen, that it's one of the most, if not the most expensive tablets you can buy, the screen should great. Does that mean there can be zero flawed screens? Of course not. But there also can't be zero flawless screens either. So far, based on what I've seen and others have reported, flawed screens seem to be the rule, not the exception. I've only seen one apparently flawless screen, and that was in showroom lighting where things are often not as they seem.

Retina alone is not enough. Color rendition and evenness of lighting and color are equally important ingredients of a great screen. A failure of any one of those elements compromises the others' ability to deliver a great experience.

But surely it can't be that Apple, perfectionists that they are, (the very same company who hasn't released iPad Minis with retina screens yet because of reportedly imperceptible panel flaws that don't meet their "exacting" standards) could possibly have created 10 million iPad Airs with half yellow screens. Surely it's just some crazy coincidence, that a few dozen random people are getting defective screens, and have seen defective screens in stores everywhere.

If it's truly impossible that Apple could release an inherently flawed display, that no one noticed anywhere along the production or inspection line, then there must be millions of flawless ones out there.

And that is why people keep looking for one.

My ipad air screen is flawless.
But I have gotten bad screens in the past,I've had every generation ipad there is,even the mini.
Ipad 1 got a great screen, again with the 2.It was when I got my ipad 3 that I got a god awful yellow screen and severe backlight bleed, took 2 exchanges to get a good one.
The 4 I got was ok,I had to exchange my mini one time because of yellowing and a few dead pixels.
So yes bad screens are out there .And when you are forking out hundreds of dollars you want it to be the perfect high quality product it is suppose to be.

My Air has a dark horizontal line running through the middle of the screen, Im just going to live with it for a few weeks and go to Apple and get it changed hopefully by then the screen issues are worked out. I have to say this is pretty ridiculous, but Im glad mine isn't the only one messed up, at first I assumed it was.

Can you post a pic?

Does anyone have a 3 that's still yellow? Or a 4? Does the yellow fade or not?

By itself my Air looks fine, but putting it next to my 3, it's clearly yellow, almost looks dirty or faded in comparison. So I might keep it since its ok, but it clearly is not as nice of a white as my 3...unless I go full brightness.

So side by side with the same brightness with a ipad 3 and you can clearly see at half brightness some airs are yellow, I don't blame people for trying to get what they want or paid for, and maybe Apple should have a white balance setting for crap sack.

Don't worry about the fanboys. To them, apple can do no wrong.

I'm still on my first ipad air with the shadow bar and left side yellow tinge. I'm waiting until the end of my 14 days to return it and exchange once. If that one is no good, I will wait a few months for a different batch. Hopefully something will change.

I've exchanged 7 iPads. Every single one of them has the yellow tint on the left side of the screen. Some worse than others. Bought at different stores, same issue.

QC on these is incredibly poor. At this point, I'll hold on to the one I have and see how the retina minis are when they come out. Maybe the smaller screen size means less to mess up.

Biggest lesson from this whole ordeal is to definitely buy at an Apple store or a store with a liberal return policy. Otherwise good luck getting an exchange.

Feel so bad for you  I got my iPad and it is so perfect !!! :D

This yellow tint on the left hand side was present on my iPad Air, no way would I be happy to put up with that after paying the premium price they cost.
