So it's faster to close one app at a time using a swiping motion as opposed to hitting a red minus sign rapidly. Makes sense.
I think it’s more because we’ve been trained to swipe something “out” to get rid of it, both in iOS and Android. If we went back to the first iPhone, the hitting button way would probably be more natural as that was the way in early days of the task switcher.

The thing is it doesn't hurt anyone to have both the swiping motion and the X/minus sign. Tabs in Safari does it. It's very annoying that they would backtrack on something that worked well.

Well the red icon is a much smaller hit target which makes swiping faster using one hand for me; easier to stabilize the phone since I don’t have to reach as far and high on the screen. Verified by closing safari tabs which can be done either way. Similarly, using the entire left side of the screen as a back button is easier than a single back button for the same reason.

In the end it’s a personal preference and I’m glad Apple agrees with my preference.

So you agree with less choices even though it negatively effects others. Nice.

In my opinion, from a productive stance, it makes little sense to swipe up to get to the multitask window, and then hold an app until the red delete icon shows in order to close apps. So Yes, for me it makes perfect sense to just be able to swipe up. You obviously missed my entire point on how different people use their phones on a daily basis....let me say again:
Just goes to show how different we all use our phones and what each of us finds better productive. Wish apple would give us choices rather then this or that

I prefer to swipe up as this is what we have been doing for years and I prefer this method. If we had a choice you could choose to tap the delete button.

For the cheap seats:

1. Swiping is a quicker, easier, and more efficient way to close apps.
2. Apple probably won't bring back the X so I'm glad my and their preferences align.

At no point did I say that fewer choices were better.

you can’t just swipe up because Apple wanted to get Force Touch involved
But Apple has seen the light, that force Touch is not for everything and in some instances makes thinks harder
I’m sure they’ll get it right in iOS 12
