YES. Back in the day after the 3GS launch, I remember there was a guy here who'd obsess over individual pixels not lining up (seriously...I think it was how various components of individual letters lined up and how aesthetically unpleasing it was, or some such nonsense.) He went on and on and on and on and on and ON endlessly about it and after several YAGEs, I think he finally left. Craziness. I'll probably also take a bit of a break after launch, but not for too long because I'll be awaiting a jailbreak (no matter how long it takes).

People look for imperfections because they are dropping a crap ton of cash, be it up front or via monthly contracts, for their devices. I am personally grateful that forums like this exist. If my device isn't pristine, it's going back. Apple is really good about this too. Point out to them the flaw and they will make things right. Apple ALLOWS their users to expect this of them. One of the ways Apple is justifiably considered "better than the rest".

I can say that my 3GS had some horrible stuck pixels. On a black screen it looked like some glitter, or dust (or both) had been sprinkled on the screen. It actually took three different units for me to finally get a good one. This was something I easily noticed (and so did the Apple employee) without reading about it frist though.

I propose we should all stay out of the forums and take any issues up with Apple directly... why? I'm sure the Fandroids will be in full-effect scouring threads to find iPhone 5 flaws and imperfections.

After the 2 million announcement this morning, they will need all the fuel they can get... especially since the Galaxy SIV launch is too far away to have any immediate impact at the moment.

Oh yeah, stuck pixels I'd totally bitch about, but these weren't stuck pixels--these were "issues" like how the dot on an i didn't match up precisely with the top part of a lower-case d, or something like that. Nothing whatsoever physically wrong with the phone, but this guy was a graphic designer or something and was completely bent out of shape that Apple would let something so egregious slip past. :p He was ridiculous. Wish I could remember his name. I believe he even contacted Apple multiple times about it.

Every single time a new Apple product comes out, there are a whole bunch of people that examine it with a microscope and find flaws. Which ends up ruining the device for me because I start to notice them. This time around, I will stop attending the forums for a while, just to give people the chance to get over the 'yellow tints' and 'LED bleed' and get on with their lives.

I made the mistake of going on here when I first got my iPad 3, and I noticed something I would have NEVER seem myself. Sorta ruined it for me. Don't want that to happen again.

While this community is truly awesome, is anyone else annoyed by how OCD everyone seems to be?

Honestly, that's a good plan and I probably should do it myself. But I'll be so excited that I will want to be around other people that are excited about it, so I'll probably still go here.

Every year I tell myself I'm not gonna look at Mac Rumors for a month or so before launch. I fail every time. Now that I'm on the forum it's way worse. I hear you loud and clear, OP. When the iPhone 4 launched I received a perfect phone. No signal or screen issues. But the guys on here had me convinced I bought a lemon.

I didn't buy an iPhone 5, I may still though. But yeah let's hope the OCD stays in the cage this year and we can all just enjoy our phones.

I understand people want functioning devices considering the money they spend but, if you don't notice a potential flaw on your own, is it really an issue?

When I got the new iPad, I casually examined it myself and found no visible issues (screen color, light bleed, etc), was very happy with it in fact. Only after reading some of the threads here did I take a fine tooth comb to it, so to speak, and then noticed the color might be off a touch and that I have a small amount of light bleed along one edge.

Point it, I probably wouldn't have ever noticed these things if I hadn't read about everyone else's perceived problems (yes, I used perceived because some people are simply ridiculous with their expectations).

I think the OP has a great idea--I just doubt I'll have the willpower to stick to it myself--love keeping up with the latest and greatest.

1. Buy iPhone

2. Keep it if you like it.

Or alternate 2. Take it back if you don't like it.

Simple as that. ^_^

I'm with you too. The forums are rear and helpful at times. But this aspect does ruin it for me too somewhat. Oh poop my iPad3 just bled some light

To some folks apparently it isn't an issue. For me, it matters. For one, I like to sell my "old" devices when I replace them, which is generally 1-2 years out. At that point they are out of warranty, so I can't get them replaced. So now I am stuck with selling a device with an issue that I inevitably could have spotted had I checked forums. To me, that's a big deal. When I list a pristine device, I mean it, and would hate for someone to inspect it and realize there is a flaw.
