The iPad 2 does demonstrate shorter battery life than the iPad 1 in real world testing, along with that, the iPad 2 has a slightly larger battery than the iPad 1 did.

My point was the variability in users experiences, not a slight overall difference. The folks over in the Batterygate thread aren't experiencing a slight difference, some are seeing very significant differences from their experience with an iphone4.

1. People who complain about battery life not lasting 8 hours with only light use have a very skewed idea of what "light use" really means.

2. Only if all applications/tasks were written to be multithreaded and done so in a way that utilizes both cores as best as possible... which has never been accomplished.

3. That would seem a bug, I agree with you there.

4. Doesn't work that way.

...if it was an actual software defect with iOS5, all users would experience these same issues, not just some. I have had no problems with mine, because I actually know how to use technology and understand just what to expect.

1. I personally have that issue. Yesterday I did no web browsing anything over 3G. I sent about 10 text messages and was charging my phone by 4 PM since it had turned off from low power. I would charge it to 40% and be back down in less then 2 hours of no use.

2. Yes, but keep in mind everything OS has multiple processes. So a whole core can be dedicated to a app while the system uses the other one. Another thing to note almost all apps are multi-threaded GUI vs background processes don't run under the same thread. If they did your GUI would lag alot.

4. How does it not work that way? Chips can be developed to use less power. If it "didn't work that way" todays computers would take a so much power they couldn't be used compared to computers in the 90s.

Hate to tell you but your not the only person on the forum who works in a technology field.

Again, you might personally have the issue, but I don't. And I have to imagine a lot of others don't either, as there are 4 million iPhone 4s devices out there.

Chips are designed to run more efficiently, but I do not believe the A5 is one of those examples. Rather, it's more just an A4 with a second core.

That seems easy to explain, the iPad lasts a LOT longer anyways, so the percentage drop isn't as exaggerated. We aren't glued to them throughout the entire day the way we are cell phones.

Guys, you really need to stop whining and bitch!ng about eachother, your like little kids it's so bloody boring! I've actually registered to the forum just to say that! It's simple, read a post, if it doesen't help you or you cant advise someone else, move on. Is that not the whole point of posting on here? People seem ignorant to the fact that while adding a second core to a CPU doesn't increase power consumption by 2x, it does certainly increase the drain just the same.

So, those who seem absolutely shocked by the lesser battery life of the 4s... pop the A5 out and put an A4 in if it's such a life or death issue for you. :D

Also, I'd assume the new antenna design has something to do with the battery life differences.

So then, Apple isn't as innovative as they once were. Good to know.
