Sadly, catching the shooter will be very difficult and this incident could have been prevented. The victim didn't have any Firewall, while the robber had 'Private browsing' turned on.

Apple is working on a Time Machine upgrade that can take them back just moments before the shooting, so it could be prevented -by offering Apple Care and Genius Support for the robber.

Poor man thought that 3GS stood for '3 guns'. After all, it was just a hardware store! He was also interested in the new safari experience, hence the shooting. He was looking for a snow leopard. He wasn't using an MB Air gun. He was a Pro.

He also misunderstood the meaning of 'Troubleshooting' and 'One to One'. All he wanted was some whisky at the Genius Bar with Steve, who was apparently a shooting star himself.

Fortunately, he couldn't test any 'killer apps'. Now the poor man will be sent to a boot camp and will Xserve an iLife imprisonment.

Funniest? NOOOOOOOOHHH! FREEDOM!!!!! ME-ME-ME!

That is, by far, the funniest thing anyone has said in this thread.

No, it's not. If you cannot find anything close to that in the next bit, you should be shot and I can guarantee you that you will be!

Now, that's not just at least moderately funny, but intelligent. Funniest... bollocks!

I would personally tend to agree that this is not a good story to be making light of, but people deal with bad news in different ways. Light-hearted comments/jokes aren't necessarily a sign of people wanting to offend, rather often just a way of dealing with the crazy horrible stuff that goes on in the world, even if that comes across as inappropriate to others.

Oh BS! That's just an excuse to accept people for being jackasses!

I can make jokes like the best of them for example when a crime has gone bad. However NOT when people actually got hurt.

Wow, aren't we a bit full of ourselves.

there is a whole genre of humor as it relates to serious and harmful events. it's called black comedy. It's an accepted art and although you not personally appreciate it I would suggest you stop being so judgmental of others.

Heck even most grade school kids have heard the term nervous laughter before.

Lighten up. Nobody here wants anyone hurt, but sometimes in life you have to look for a bit of humor. It's all in context.

I feel TERRIBLE for this employee. It's a scary situation to be put in and her life has completely changed in a matter of seconds. Her entire existence. She'll face issues she never would have even attempted to comprehend before because of one crazy, greedy person. BUT! (There's always a BUT) You NEVER, EVER, EVERRR open the backdoor without looking through the peephole and requesting proper ID or verification. Now perhaps this was an inside job? But then I imagine that would have surfaced that it was at least a familiar person. I work in the mall at an Abercrombie and Fitch and in the back door there is a HUGE sign that says "Do NOT open the door if they ring the door bell until you look through the peep hole and verify the delivery." Now A&F doesn't have 3500 dollar computers or an abundance of expensive electronics. Nothing. We DO have 60 dollar polos, 80 dollar blouses and 180 dollar jackets with tasteful brown belts as is the trend as of late. But honestly perhaps to some degree this was just a slight slip up on her behalf of not following protocol and an example of why those protocols exist?

When I was an employee at Apple we had a guy wait for us to leave after wards it was pretty interesting the threats people give you at the G bar. I hope the victim is doing alright.

I'm not going to get too deep into this, but let's just say that there are plenty of protocols in regard to the back door at the Apple Store. If I didn't know someone, or they couldn't properly identify themselves, I told them to go through the front door. UPS, FedEx, whatever - didn't matter.

This person likely got tired of arguing with the perpetrator and went ahead and opened the door, which was obviously a mistake. But anyone can get purple or brown shirt with a fake ID and look the part.

My house is walking distance to this store. less than 1 mile. scary stuff. :( Hopefully they catch this degenerate and lock him up for a few years at least.

Are they sure it wasn't someone's "German car backfire"? Was the perp seen fleeing in "brown flip-flops"?

......He was described as a black male, between the ages of 35 and 45, with a medium build and facial hair. He was last seen fleeing the area on foot, wearing a light-colored, short sleeve shirt, light-colored long pants and a dark baseball cap. He was carrying a handgun.

Police said they would release security camera video of the shooting to aid in the search.......

Just GREAT. Another model citizen. As if we don't catch ENOUGH flak. Hopefully the wounded gal is fine.

But on a side note, the police couldn't catch a middle-aged man on foot?

It is awful that this happened. Perhaps employees could have routinely used more caution but didn't precisely because that this kind of thing hasn't happened.

I'm not too far from that Apple Store, and it's one of the nicest ones in the area. It's a shame that this happened and I hope that the employee has a speedy recovery.

I also suggest that they install a camera outside of the door..?

Every time I see something like this I am hesitant about going to America given the number of nutters over there - sure, in my neck of the woods we have hold ups but they tend to be something that is an anomaly rather than what appears to be 'a regular thing' in the US.

Now that's one thing I won't do, I'll probably not go to Arlington for a while, but i love my apple stores around here in VA

but I really hope that, the employee is fine by now!

i love apple!! :apple::apple:
