I got mine to work by unplugging the HomePod for a few second and plugging it back it. I also toggle off the recognize my voice on my wife home app

Which setting are you talking about? On my iPhone I have a "Personal Requests" setting, but my wife doesn't have it on hers... So annoying.

It’s not working for me still

but to find The toggle u have to click the users face in the home kit app and the option to turn off and on recognition is there for each individual.

Indeed. And it’s only there if all the users are on iOS 13.2

Trying to understand how this works for things that aren't specific to a person, like "what time is it?"

Does it not care who said it and respond, or does it only allow it from a recognized person?

I tried it last night after installing 13.2.1 and it works really well. Just have to make sure the user is Home member and they have Siri activated and personal requests turned on. When the other user first asks Siri a question, Siri will ask who this is. The other user then states their name and it works after that. Tried different questions for each of us including time to work and calendar events and was replied with our respective name and the answer to our questions. Didn’t have to do anything special.

I have the exact same issue with my wife who I have already invited to my “Home” setup. Siri won’t recognize her voice despite her accepting Recognize My Voice and Personal Requests on her phone’s Home app. On my phone, when I look at her access, the section with Recognize My Voice and Personal Requests are toggled on but that area is a bit greyed out. I’ve attached a screenshot to show what I mean. Also, no matter how many times I try to toggle on Update Listening History for her, my phone won’t register the toggle on. Very, very strange. This continues the trend of an awful year of software for Apple.

Tangentially, I’ve been hearing that some of the Apple pundits only updated their Macs to Mojave around the time that Catalina launched to the public. Frankly, I haven’t experienced many of the bugs that others have complained about with Catalina (despite a random frozen screen yesterday which never, ever happened to me before) but if I weren’t in the iPhone Upgrade Program, I would take the same approach with iOS updates. What a shame.

Might not be your issue but I did read the voice used for Siri needs to be the same on the phone as on the HomePod if you want voice recognition to work.

And now the update got released and pulled again for bricking HomePods... Not a good thing... Not a good thing at all.

My iPhone and the Home app are prompting me to update my HomePod firmware.

Is it safe or is the advice still to avoid the update because of problems?

They patched the issue with 13.2.1. Works great for me. Can’t say for certainty that it won’t break yours though.

Not working for me. Latest HomePod OS 13.2.1 and iOS 13.2.

Toggled the settings, removed/added users, power cycled HomePods. No dice.

“Hey Siri, who am I?”

”I don’t know who you are. Go to the Home app to turn on voice recognition.”

F*ck.

My wife and I share the same Apple ID, years ago it was just easier and the way to share apps without paying twice needlessly.

To get the new HomePod functionality where Siri can differentiate my wife from me, can we continue to share the same Apple ID? Or do we need to split up?

Split. Apple ID has never been designed with sharing in mind. Assuming you’re the “home” owner you would then invite your wife (using her own Apple ID) in the Home App.

Thanks. Was afraid of that.

So what happens to the 100 apps on her iPhone that were installed using my Apple ID? Will she have to reinstall everything? Including all the userid's and passwords that each utilizes? And the data within each app? Does that disappear?

Trying to understand if this undertaking is worth it. Thanks.

I finale got this working by completely deleting my home and adding all my accessories and HomePod again. Idk why it was such a pain in the ass but it’s pretty cool when it works.

I really don’t want to delete the home, there’s too much in it.

But I plan to try deleting the HomePods and re-adding them later today. Haven’t tried that yet.

I can’t believe Apple expects people to jump through these hoops, and communicate on forums to research as a group to understand how to get these products to perform as Apple promised. And yet they remain silent and acknowledge no issues. The company of “it just works” is no longer.
