That sucks you are going through all this. I hope everyone with a cracked case is entering it into the Appple Feedbaack page - yeah, a shot in the dark at best, but worth it I guess. These plastic covers probably cost $0.25 to produce. If Apple is covering this up, it's not likely due to the replacement costs, but their reputation.
