My wife 2018 MM (6core&8GB ram) has been running 6hours every day driving 4K LG display and whereas her old MBP driving a normal 24" display would have fans running most of the time I am very happy to report fans at minimum and top of case cool (not warm at all). This is with her desk 1m from our multi fuel burner (toasty warm-she calls it).

Just thought I would balance some of the negative vibe on the wee Mac.

The Mac mini is a wonderful little machine. I still have my Mac mini 2014, 4GB RAM/500GB HDD, and it's running quite well. Your MM is a beast compared to mine, glad to hear you're still happy with it this far post-purchase.

Me too! I am VERY happy. I bought the base model, which I thought was a great price. It's the perfect machine no matter what anyone says. I have everything that I need on it and still have 90 out of 121 gigs of space left open.

The only thing I may change is upgrading the RAM. It's not necessary since my swap file is never used and the memory pressure is always in the green, but I see it using up to 7 gigs at a time so I figure with software bloating every update I may benefit from a memory upgrade soon.

Love, love, love my 2018 Mac mini. Couldn’t be happier. New to macOS and hanging stuff off the mac but it all works perfectly. What a joy. i5/1tb/8gb with my old 40” 4k Samsung monitor and 15 year old Dell keyboard. Can you say flexible? I can because I remapped some keys so copy/paste ctr-c ctr-v and shift-prnt scrn is pc style. I’m holding off upgrading the memory until next year. Dark mode is so cool. Unix under the hood is soooo much better. Shell scripts are pretty nifty. Built in stuff like print to pdf, pdf editing with preview, quick image editing, etc. The mac mini handles it all. I have a powered hub that is crammed with stuff. Just put a dvd player/burner on it today and burned an audio cd! I didn’t even know I had like 80 of them from probably 15 years ago. The mini burned them with fury!

Getting my 2018 MM (i5, 16 GB, 500 GB SSD) has been, all in all, one of the high points of this year. Stuff just happens instantly, boot-up is like 15 seconds as opposed to 15 minutes with the old 2010 MM. Plenty of versatile ports on this baby, and it's as quiet as can be (so was my old MM). I've not had coil whine, overheating, or most of the other complaints others have voiced. [Knock on wood!]

The only thing I've run into that is somewhat flakey is the Bluetooth proximity issue, which caused me to switch back from a BT Macally mouse to a wired Macally mouse (I like and prefer 2 button mouses, as I am used to them from using PCs at work.) I'm still somewhat amazed that Apple did things right by having so many ports.

@Reality4711,

In the end, how many days did it take the courier to find Thurso?

hmmm! Interesting delivery!

At the same time as a man left it in our hall (vestibule up here) without getting a signature I was sat at my desk in the next room. He came and went so quietly I did not notice his appearance. There is a doorbell and door knocker ;-)

When my wife bought the MM into the living room I went directly to the couriers website and it still shows the parcel as "waiting in Inverness" loading onto final delivery van.

It was delivered by a local firm presumably under contract to UPS.

I received email notification of the delivery the following day - sorely tempted to claim non-delivery but the ever right wife talked me out of it ;-)

So make of that what you will

Amazon deliver within 24hrs of despatch and use a local agent also (no signature & they take it away)

All in all the classic Scottish Highland delivery.

I am quite pleased with my 2018 Mini also. I've had it about a month and it does everything I need it to do without issue.

I have have had mine less than 24 hours, and so far I am very happy with it. It is snappy and dead silent. Almost too silent. It pairs nicely with my Dell S2719DM (2560x1440) and the package is a nice replacement to my 2010 iMac. I have an i7/512/16.

Were the previous Mini models not quiet?

Am retiring our 2009 mini that served as our HTPC since brand new. Replaced it with a Apple TV 4K unit.

But the unit will be used as a backup system so it will still have a life. Maxed at 8GB of ram and a 500GB SSD it should fill in a pinch should one of our other systems have issues. Good to have a backup now and then.

Thinking about the 2018 MM, loaded at at 16GB of ram and 1TB SSD for myself or my wife or both. Depends on what Apple does with the promised MP. My money is it won't be delivered or it won't be what we want. At least we have plans in case of either event.

Mini i5 16GB 500 SSD. Just added the TB3 external drive enclosure mentioned in a recent thread. Couldn't be happier with how easy it was to move from my 2012 Mini, and have nearly everything work.

I love my mini too! I got the i7 and upgraded to 32gb myself. I use it for audio production and overall it’s a great little machine! It still blows me away that such a powerful machine can be so small. Also I’ve had NO issue with thermals at all. Plus it looks so good in space gray :)
