I usually keep track of my speeds and find them to be all over the place. I'll sometimes see 20-30 Mbps in located where I have seen 65 in the past. Lightly throttled or heavy usage at that time? There is a location outside of Brown University that usually provides me with good speed. I've seen just over 70 in May and tested 81 a few days ago. I might take a ride by there to see what I get at 2am before school starts up again.

Interesting article on today's front page here -

AT&T Urges FCC to Drop $100 Million Fine, Says Data Throttling Doesn't Harm Customers

A little from that article - AT&T ceased selling Unlimited Data Plans years ago but continues to have customers grandfathered to its Unlimited Data Plans. Previously, the company throttled its Unlimited Data Plan customers once they exceeded 5 GB of LTE data, but in May the company changed its policy to only throttle customers when connected to a cell tower experiencing network congestion.

Cellular providers removing the choice to purchase an unlimited data plan did so not because they "couldn't support the infrastructure". They did so in order to milk more money from their customers, plain and simple.

Yes. People need to understand this. The infrastructure isn't the issue or us unlimited data users. It's purely financial.

Is att still threatening people who tether on their grandfathered unlimited plans

I haven't tethered since I got a text saying they would boot me off unlimited if I didn't have a Tethering plan

Why does anyone care how much data he uses? Does AT&T care when unlimited users use less than 5GB a month?

Some people "care" because they bought into the lies that it somehow effects them. They believe the lies that this alleged small percentage of users ruin it for everyone else.

Nothing more than a money-grab and then pointing the finger at their very own customers.

Shameful, really.

I agree, they feel cheated somehow I guess. Unlimited data is just that, unlimited. The company would love people to not use any of their data but still charge for it.

Or they are just jealous.
