1-2 minutes on a small screen, sure.
10 minutes on a small screen while the larger screen is in your pocket? No thanks. Most games on the iPhone are already "casual".

No sense arguing - - I'll meet you back here in April 2018, and we can see how game apps for the Apple Watch have evolved (or not) after three years of development. :)

games will evolve, just not going to spend 10 minutes in a row on an endless runner on an apple watch.
will you be constantly look at your watch on and off to play a game? sure. i can imagine a social game where you have to check your watch every minute or so.

in the meantime, enjoy less than 3 hours of continuous play time on the first gen apple watch.

Who hasn't inadvertently run their iPhone battery down when caught up in an exciting game? Same thing will happen occasionally with the Apple Watch once smart and creative game designers take advantage of the form factor.

Who hasn't inadvertently run their iPhone battery down when caught up in an exciting game?

iPhone: 5-6 hours of gameplay
Apple Watch: <3 hours of gameplay

iPhone: take out from pocket to charge. put back in pocket. (once a day)
Apple Watch: take off from wrist to charge. put back on wrist. (2x-3x times a day)

Same thing will happen occasionally with the Apple Watch once smart and creative game designers take advantage of the form factor.

iPhone: control a game with 2 thumbs on a giant screen simultaneously
Apple Watch: control a game with 1 finger that takes up most of the screen or use the digital crown, but not both at the same time

iPhone: powerful GPU
Apple Watch: ????

Can't wait to bump in to someone look down at their Apple watch walking only to be hit hard with a lineman block from a walking pedestrian.

Gonna be some fun times & good vids on youtube.

Your definition of "occasionally" is is 2-3 times a day for 3 hours?

If your idea of a smart and creative game design that takes advantage of the Apple Watch form factor is something like a graphics heavy action game like Infinity Blade III, then yes, you will be sorely disappointed.

However, a game such as Nimblebit's Letterpad will neither tax the processor, nor screen size.

Additionally, the Apple Watch has unique input and output options like Force Touch and the Taptic Engine that will assuredly provide game designers with yet unimagined opportunities.

I realize that you prefer to view the world in a pessimistic manner farewelwilliams, and that certainly has it's advantages. As Ben Franklin famously said, “I'm an optimistic pessimist -- prepare for the worst, but when the very worst doesn't happen, I'm pleasantly surprised.”

Personally, I choose to imagine the best possible outcomes for emerging technologies. To each his own.

The one to the right, can you read on top of a transparency? Good for you.

What aspect "look awful" to you?

It is required and is dictated by the Apple GUI guidelines.

It's not required. Most of the Watch mock up apps I've seen don't use it. In fact if you go to Apple's website hardly any of their watch screen shots are showing translucency.
