Can't tell if serious or not, and I'll be honest, it's breaking my brain a bit.

You're allowed to not like the concept of a smart watch, that's fine. What boggles my mind is that you think putting a desktop OS on a watch would be better.

I don't think the OS is the limiting factor on functionality. I think it's the screen size.

If it has a desktop OS, it can stream directly to a PC monitor or Apple display. Intel's latest chips have wireless streaming built-in.

Hey Genius, Apple did not introduce the game.

Why should have Apple announced any major releases or products or design studies today?

It is NOT an Apple headline, it is a NimbleBit announcement. While I would probably never buy or play a game on my :apple:Watch what is the problem if developers want to make them? Should Apple have a no 3ed party games policy? It is not like it's a 'fart' App quality offering.

So? The point I am making (whch you clearly didnt get) is that apple doesnt seem to be doing a lot lately beyond iterations of the same they have been doing for years .

Wait, was Apple supposed to be announcing something today? Or are they doomed because it's January 21 and they haven't announced any new products yet?
Why does someone always start rambling about doomed?

I completely understand many of you don't see the need for Apple Watch. That is absolutely your prerogative. Outside of toilet paper, there are few products that are universally useful (and even then people have their preferences). But a lot of negative comments seem to be beyond a mere dislike for the future product but almost seem hopeful Apple Watch will be a failure so one can gloat and say "I told you so."

I'm not trying to squelch criticism. I only question the motivation behind some of the negativity. No product is perfect. Some are better than others, and there are ideas which are utterly il conceived. Some people may even have a point that Apple Watch is a product in search of a problem. However, we won't really know the watch's potential until it's truly put to the test in the marketplace.

I'm going on record as saying I have no idea how well or poorly it will do. Of course I hope it does well. I want to see the product grow in the future. One thing I do know: I will be in line that first week (if not the first day) to get my own unit. I haven't worn a watch with any regularity since my SPOT watch back in 2006-09. I liked that one so I know I'll love this.

It's going to do great. It's going to be a massive product and change the way we interact with technology in an important way. People are just shallow and short sighted. These comments are totally reminiscent of the iPad hate and doubt.

I'm saving this thread to bring up in the future to demonstrate to the haters of the next big Apple product how wrong they are once again.

Apple is 100% on their A-game. This will be the most profound example yet of the company knowing what consumers want before they do.

Criticisms about this game, or watch games in general, being a drain on battery life may be true. But that is all down to personal choice. If it does drain the battery to an unreasonable level then people will stop using it, and it will be up to the developer to address it.

Those who cannot fathom why anyone would play a game on their watch are not thinking beyond their own needs/wants. Game watches have existed for decades. I can remember having a Casio soccer watch in the mid 80s and, at 10 years old I loved it. So, although perhaps far more popular with children (which is a market I doubt this will be applicable for), there is a precedent for this.

Thirdly, the 1st world 'problem' of pulling your phone out of your pocket is an oft-written about 'solution' that the watch 'solves'. And as, by nature, people are lazy, or busy, or both, I think this will be a real benefit that people will embrace.

Fourthly is the novelty factor and cuteness factor that watch games will be a part of. Those may be short lived, but they are real attractions too.

People who are pooping on the Apple Watch sound like everyone who were pooping on the iPad.

Take a look at the comments on the article a couple months before the iPad release:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/856880/

The iPad is a dud! No value for the customer! Can't run flash! Wah wah wah. Sound familiar?

Same story every time. A bunch of whiny commenters pan everything they don't like about the Apple product, and yet it turns into an incredible success and everyone buys it. Imagine that.

No thanks , the battery life is probably going to be bad in the first version , and owning a moto 360, it going to feel ackward playing a game while the watch is on the wrist. Should just be brief interactions.

Given this thing is going to be connected to an iPhone at all times, just play games on the iPhone , don't see the point of gaming on the apple watch

two very differrent products, if you can't understand why people are pooping the apple watch, just buy it as soon as it comes out and ignore there threads.

Games on a phone? I'm not sure of their rationale. Do they really expect people to play games on their phone and kill it's less-than-a-day-long battery life when we have game consoles that are far more powerful and don't have battery issues?
- Gamers in 2007

Nobody said this in 2007. Exactly no one.

Everyone was excited for touchscreens and accelerometers because almost every phone had games installed on it prior to that - from Snake (on the nokia 5110), through to Tetris on Motorolas. Playing games on a phone had been common place since at least 1997.

Everyone was expecting Nintendo to release all of their games on the iPhone. It was probably the most anticipated change in gaming since the invention of the GameBoy.

A watch has a tiny screen (which your finger covers most of when you touch it), can only be used with one hand, has extremely limited battery life and would require a user to hold their wrist at an unnatural and awkward angle for extended durations. The OP's criticisms are extremely valid.

Passive (fitness tracking), and limited interactions (ApplePay, notifications) are what a smart watch is good at. Designers that create apps that utilise that level of functionality will be successful.

Oh boy - so much anger here. This game is a technology demonstration, a proof of concept. Developers are exploring the possibilities they have with the :apple:watch and getting familiar with the SDK.

Would it be nice to have 3D holographic projection and mind control built in? Perhaps, but we only have the technology of 2015 available. And this also requires to offload the heavy lifting to the iPhone to achieve a minimum of battery time. In fact I can't help but feel the iPhone 6+'s battery has been dimensioned this big only because of the Apple watch requirements in mind.

And when I find myself yet again crammed in overcrowded public transportation I sometimes think it'd be nice to have an :apple:watch now to see the notification or incoming message that just vibrated or to change music, without poking my elbow into the person next to me to get the iPhone out of its pocket.

Wouldn't buy it merely as a glorified remote, but it's one real-life example for the multiple niches that this product will serve.

I'll come back here and laugh on these guys faces when Apple Watch skyrocks in sale. Don't just bash it yet or you will eat your own words later

since the Iphone has to be paired with the watch, why wouldnt i just use my phone to play the game? Would probably be a better experience as well

Occasionally I forget my watch at home and by the end of the day I am so sick and tired of pulling my phone out of my back pocket to see what time it is. If I could play my WWF and check my Twitter without rummaging through my bag or pockets I'd call that a win. But the point is moot in my case, I love my mechanical watch and I won't be wearing two watches.

Nah, it's not the same at all. The problem with the watch is purely physical in nature as in its just too damned small to really be very useful for gaming or watching a movie. I mean.... Can you really watch a movie on a one inch screen or whatever? How immersive can a game really be on such a minuscule device? With limited storage, questionable sound, and the fact that it's just so tiny are problems that cannot be overcome by "individual people's use cases".

It's just too small. That's a fact, not an opinion.

It's an opinion.

You can play games, (perhaps) watch movies (albeit uncomfortably) and interact with the UI, so as a matter of fact the Applewatch is not too small. Whether you and many others have the opinion that it's too small _for them_ to use for a certain activity, is a completely different story!

Someone is hating on my old watch

I had a cheap Chinese watch similars to the one you exhibited, bar the sleek supermario facade; with tetris, pac man and space invaders pre-installed, lasted me years. Ditched it before college (aka 6th form here in the uk)

iOS games on my Apple TV - WIN. iOS games on iPad, nice, many games perfect fit, would love a controller. iOS games on iPhone, ok I guess, if I have time to kill, maybe something to pass the time, no serious games. iOS games on my Apple Watch, right......

Not to get too crude here, but there are better things I can do with my other free hand.
high fives?

Exactly. The more this thing can do the greater it's percieved value is to a larger audience.

What kind of value exactly is of course subjective, but why put restrictions on potential at this point in the game.

Exactly, the fact that it has the capability to play games, may expand it's market appeal.

I have a game on my Sony Smart Watch 3....
I depend on mine more by the day.
Sounds good, could you kindly give examples?

haha, they doomed if they did, and doomed if they didn't, :p

Not picking on you, but can we all imagine how many times that particular "benefit" is going to be spun in the coming months as part of rationalizing why we all need to line up and buy the watch? The great burden of pulling out the iPhone will be solved by buying the :apple:Watch.

Since that burden is a problem for so many of us every single day, how long until we can get to this...

That way, we won't even have to lift our arms or move our heads. Ahhh, nirvana*!!!

*though that probably works against the whole health-kit thrust

lol- maybe that the next step in evolution, we may transcend our physical bodies, becoming beings of pure consciousness and intellect (minus the andoid fans :p)

Wow, Nimblebit is now a "major game developer" now? Is this watch game their next AAA sensation?

Oh boy - so much anger here. This game is a technology demonstration, a proof of concept. Developers are exploring the possibilities they have with the :apple:watch and getting familiar with the SDK.

Exactly. I don't get all the hostility. Plus we don't even know if Apple will allow games on the Watch as the HIG is pretty explicit that interaction should be in seconds not minutes.

….and by 1pm your watch runs out of battery….
Oh - found a production-level unit in a bar and made some tests? Please share!

People complain about the battery life as it is ..
What is it, then? Only information available outside of Apple is that it probably has to be charged on a daily basis. Prior to the iPhone 6+ that was not uncommon for iPhones as well, yet people bought them in droves.

People are sooo negative haha.. easy to critic everthing. I do see great potencial here, quick games will be great on the watch like some trivia with 3 answers.
you dont need to play them but it will be cool to have the option. :)
sorry my english

I'm struggling to figure out what the purpose of the :apple:watch is. I've gone from super excited thinking it was going to be a great fitness band and keep track of steps, heart rate, activities and maybe more, to coming to the conclusion that it is little more then a novelty with poor battery life.

I think the fitbit is going to give me everything I'm looking for in a activity band and do it for several hundred dollars less. I don't want games, I don't want to opt out of advertisements, I don't want people sending me doodles on my wrist.

I like the Apple pay part. I wonder if Apple will licence Apple Pay for other devices to use? Not likely given Apples history.

My wallet is ready, but my head and heart are starting to question the purpose of it.

why not have all the features that fibit have plus peeble :) plus extras. i did love my polar watch with limit features, im goingo crazy for the :apple:watch
sorry my english

Well, it’s 14:20 in the UK and I’ve just put my iPhone 6 on charge at 23%!

If you honestly believe you will be playing games on your phone and expect to have a battery at 11pm you are seriously deluded - production-level unit or not.

I know this question might sound a bit... thick. But seriously, why on earth, would one ever want an iWatch?

Phones, computers, tablets.... they're all electronics. But a watch is an article of clothing, a fashion statement, something one brings along all the time. Why would I want a watch from a technology company? It looks pitifully dorky.

i want one, i dont like jewelery and chains or earings. i like products that give me some funtionality. why where a watch that only shows time? fashion? get a bracelet lol
