Is the glossy screen! Couldnt they just add a second version with the matte display?
Amen brotha! haha I concure. I guess I get it goes along with their consumer line being only glossy (macbook) and pros with choices, but still... I am unhappy too. Couldn't they atleast offer an option on theh 24 inch or something? Boo.
THis might make a problem for businessed wanting to order one but in highly windowed offices or badly lit places with a lot of glare. BAD MOVE APPLE! Give us a choice PLEASSSSSEEEE
I'm 100% with you there. We have a design firm and are hiring a new designer - we were going to get a new iMac for them to use but now probably won't all due to the glossy screen. It's not at all good for the office (windows / glare) and just eyestrain when you try and work 8 hours a day on it. It's a shame. We'll have to try and pick up one of the 'old' iMacs instead or maybe some other option. I know of plenty of design / web firms around that use iMacs and I think that entire sector will have issues with the new glossy screen iMacs. Silly if you think about it since the Mac survived a long time due to it's foothold in the creative sector.
Perphas in a few weeks or so apple with give the option of the screen kind of like they did with the MBPs but in reverse.
Actually what I hate is the black plastic back. It looks kind of cheap to me. I thought the white back with "iMac" written in it looked more expensive. I know that most people never see the back, but in certain situations you do.
+1 glossy screen = no no
The black back does not fit together with the color in front. I hate it.
i agree. especially if you are in line with the sun it makes it impossible to see. oh well...maybe next time.
What's That Black Mole on the front?
What's That Black Mole on the front? Argh it's the Apple Logo
What were they thinking! Ugly
I can live with black around the screen, but that logo... no can do.
I don't mind the glossy screen... I quite enjoy them.
I'm curious. Have you owned a glossy display before?
Glossy is awesome
I am working on the new iMac right now with the glossy screen and it is amazing. Really bright...and this thing is THIN.
I've worked on computers with both matte and glossy screens. Glossy screens do brighten and saturate images more which is ok, but if you're using the computer all day eye strain is a real concern. Depending on the lighting situation they can produce some very unpleasant glare. Also if you are using the computer mainly for playing games, email, internet .. glossy's not bad ... doing design work for example - not so good.
In the end (in my opinion) if you use the computer a few hours a day at most, in fairly low light situations (no large windows, bright lights nearby) glossy is just fine. If you are in an environment such as an office, and use it all day - I would certainly not recommend glossy screens.
I'm hoping Apple will hear the rumblings about the glossy monitors and introduce a matte version soon.
I thought about maybe getting one for my wife.... but not with a glossy screen. No way.
I don't get it. Doesn't Apple know not everyone wants a glossy screen? Why force them to use it? Doing so may make them look elsewhere. The MacBook is one thing, but definitely not the iMac! If I'm not mistaken, weren't the rumors saying that Apple was going for more of a "pro" look this time around?
I predict it will be an option within a couple weeks. The iMac is one of their top-selling computers. You'd think they would want to attract as many users as possible.
If Apple does not come up with a matte finish model, some 3rd party will come up with an anti-glare film to overlay the screen, making it matte. Then we'll have thread after thread about how "mine has bubbles" "mine scratches" "mine yellows and looks funny" "mine takes all my money"...
Apple, give us better options please.
Its a desktop who gives a .... itsa half inch thinner? I dont get it, I dont go out saying the thinniest computer gets my sale?Im more interested in the tech in it like say.........GPU!
i have 4
black border around screen
but at least the specs are pretty good, 1gb of ram stock is lame but it's only $1200 so...
Happy I bought my SR MBP instead of waiting though
Jeez oh man, I just can't take all this whining about the glossy screens. Have any of you ever used one? Honestly, my PC laptop eek has a glossy screen, and it sits with a window right behind me. Even during the brightest parts of the day I can still easily read text, etc. And all this is coming from a "lesser" screen manufacturer
Stop whining. Get over it, they are decent screens and every one of you would realize it if you would just give them a chance.
If you can't take the whining, don't read it. Many people who have used the glossy screens prefer the matte screen. Just because it works for you doesn't mean it'll work for everyone.
I prefer glossy screens too, that doesn't make the complaints about the lack of choice any less valid.
Also, Apple doesn't make the LCDs - they could very well use the same panel as your PC laptop.
I hope so because I don't need a 24" mirror... I'll let you know when my new imac arrives next week... I hope I didn't make a $2800 mistake
I am very glad I got my 24" last year so I don't have to put up with glossy...
What was apple thinking? This company is falling quickly.
That's my exact situation... I have a window right behind me (even with blinds closed you can see lots of sunlight) so I am glad I have my "old" iMac!!
I wonder how many people knock glossy before trying it.
If you're near a light source bright enough to be blinded by a glossy screen reflection, it'll probably leave a matte screen looking washed out.
No it doesn't. Unless you have a crappy display.
Besides what is there to try? Glossy doesn't offer any enhancement over matte. You can say "it has rich colors and deeper blacks." But they are far from natural. As a creative platform limiting certain Macs to glossy is ridiculous. If they do the same with the ACDs they can kiss display sales goodbye.
I agree, I love the matte, especially in reflective environments.
"I hope so because I don't need a 24" mirror.
I don't care what side you agree with, that is funny.
