You do realize that accidentally typing "late" instead of "2nd half" had absolutely zero impact on the point I was trying to make.

No, no he doesn't. Haha.

Back to point. VERY bad business move if it comes out before 24th. Apple is fully aware of the 30 day return policy.

Why in gods name would you cut into your own revenue. They will sell out of the white phones, why would they want to have to deal with liabilities (returns) negating their profits.

I hate to be a wet blanket, but I don't think there are that many people planning on returning their black iPhones for white ones. I really don't.

"By the end of July" does not equal ON the end of July. I just didn't feel like picking a date. Plus, next week is the 16th, so if they want to do pre-orders with delivery on the 16th, they're going to have to announce something within the next couple of days.

Oops sorry, misread that.

Agreed.

I actually agree with you. But why cut into your own sales like that at all.

I mean even a small % is a big number of people. I mean 1% is what, 6,000?

That's at BEST 1.2 million $$$. At BEST.

Just makes no sense to me in a business standpoint.

No biggie. :)

I'm thinking that Apple will say something by next week, but seeing how long the silence was before the last press release on the white iPhone, we might be sitting in the dark for another couple of weeks. Hope not.

How early does everyone plan to camp out?

Me about same time as for the black iPhone, that is 7 hours prior.

I'm hoping I can grab one online. Those lines are crazy, no way would I want to do that willingly.

True, but I suppose if Apple is really that worried about it, they could institute a like-for-like policy on returns/exchanges and otherwise make it as painful as possible to switch colors. They already disallow color-swapping due to defects/replacements/etc.

Unfortunately they can't. I'm not swapping anything. I'm returning a phone a dislike.

Then oops, I decided I'd like to try it out again. Oh look, there's a white now? Cool!

They can't properly meet the supply of people trying to get a Black iphone. I doubt they'll have things under control for the white launch.

I'd say they'll start going on sale on July 20 but won't have enough for those that want them.

Yeah white launch will be pathetic, almost as pathetic as a labron-less Cleveland.

Awww, to soon?

Either way, you're in the minority. Maybe Apple will push it back, we'll find out soon enough.

Lets all be hopeful that the phone comes out mid-August so that the people planing to 'swap/exchange' their black phones can't... and as a result they spontaneously combust.

:)

I'd rather not see the phone artificially held back so some impatient dude won't be able to swap his phone for a different color. I'm sick of waiting.

I'm a Lakers fan lol.

I live in Ohio. I'm a labron fan, so now a heat fan, as I've seen him play a few times in highschool.

Well spoken, good genuine guy.

Poor Cleveland. Bunch of class-less wannabes.

Last championship was the '64 browns, before it was even called the superbowl lol.

I actually do like Cleveland though. Man they have it hard.

Oh nor would I.

But I've waited so long that I think I can manage a few extra weeks just to see the smug smilies wiped of the face of people "sticking it to the man"

I don't think they will either. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they moved it even further back than the 24th, to something like the 27th. That way they can avoid the day 2 and 3 surge as well. Basically 1.7 million iPhone 4s they won't lose $ on.

It would probably be in Apple's best interest to set a policy of "if you return your iPhone 4, you can't buy another iPhone 4 for X months". Then no one would swap since they'd have to be without an iPhone for quite some time.

+1

I am looking forward to the white release. Radioshack called me yesterday but did not leave a message. I'm guessing they had the black iPhone for sale that I signed up for for release day. I spent some time pondering whether to just give in to the black, but it seems so close at this point :p

This is reminiscent of waiting for the iPad 3G model. "Late April" really meant the last day of April. 2nd half sounds a little more optimistic, but either way we will have it eventually :) Hang in there :)

I can see how the later than 7/24 date makes sense, but what about the thousands of others who ordered for delivery on 7/2 and 7/14?

I know that most iPhone 4's went out for 6/24, but I'm sure that if people who have the black iP4 from June 24 are just as likely to return it for white as someone who got it on 7/2 or 7/14/....

I am really really really hoping for a pre-order...I know the chances are kind of slim but one can be optimistic- heres hoping!

While I do agree with this, they have to draw the line somewhere... it would just make sense to draw it at the 600,000 pre-orders.

Who knows, maybe I'm way off on this one.

If Apple would give us a date we wouldn't have to play these games.

I think the White iPhone 4 will appear on the website quietly - i.e., I do not think there will be an announcement per se.

The official line is still that manufacturing difficulties caused the White to be delayed. This is a failing by Apple and so it shouldn't really be a celebration at Apple's end that the White has arrived. More of an 'it is available to order now' 'business as usual' tone would be appropriate.

That is possible, but it would suck because unless you camp the website it'll be sold out before most people find out.
