From a logic point of view you are absolutely correct it shouldn't bother me .... But for some reason it does which doesn't make sense given at most I am with a device what ? Six months ....

Agree. I have been buying Android smartphones since 2009. Have owned dozens of flagships over the years, and yes the chipsets and processors and modems have gotten way more efficient and battery friendly. But...even today in 2017 a 3,300mAh battery is just ok for Android phones, it's not bad, nor great. This iPlus 5, I mean OnePlus 5 will just give ok average battery life, as MRU already pointed out, reviewers saying no way it will even get 6h SOT, which sucks IMO.
Looks like a nice phone, but I'll pass spending $500 on it.

Oh wow, some nice prices on the S8 dual SIM as well. I'm just a little bit concerned about possible warranty issues when ordering through these sites, but maybe I'd need to check their terms. Too bad that my moving to Ireland plan was busted, I liked the country when I was there 😀

Yeah warranty issue will be a problem when buying a HK device. That's always a big downside. I wish more companies offered international warranty service.
I bought the S8 & G6 from Amazon UK to make sure I got EU warranty.
Both Finland & Norway are on my Bucket list of places to go and photograph. 🙂 Now I have the whole of the Camino de Santiago out of the way, next year I'll work my way through Scandanavia.

Well, even though I'm also going through phones at quite a pace, I do care about updates. That's partly due to the fact that quite often my family gets hand-me-down phones from me and I'd feel bad about giving them obsolete devices. However, if at least security updates keep coming, that's at least a step in the right direction.

I think I get it. If I were buying this phone, I'd want the 8gb model even though the 6 is of course way more than enough. Why? I always want the most, the best of a thing. Speedy updates is part of that.
Maybe? I dunno. What I do know is that I'm getting obsessed with this to the point I'm thinking of hopping over to ATT for a spell. :O

that's a bummer then, band 13 is pretty important for a lot of people.
I think it is quite expensive at about $500 when you can get the S8 for 100+ more.
This phone should be using the same 1080 OLED panel as oppo r9s/r11. I have the r9s+ and I can tell you it is quite inferior to the S8 screen in terms of clarity and sharpness.

While I didn't have my 128gb 3T Midnight Black for long (sold it to a friend) I did really like it, it cost me £429 I think... But for £499 the OP5 is only £100 less than a 32gb iPhone 7...

Well here the iphone 7+ 128gb is €1029
At €559 for the 128gb OnePlus 5 - it is only fractionally over half the price.
Even the standard iPhone 7 32gb is €779 & 128gb is €889 compared to €499 for the 64gb OnePlus 5 meaning it's still €280 - 390 cheaper.
Of course most iPhone users especially in Europe still get their devices directly from carriers and subsided so comparing RRP is a little misleading.

Well, the OnePlus 5 is £450 and that's exactly how much I paid for my S8!
Admittedly I bagged a real bargain at the time but still.
They did well on the price, though, I'm recommending this phone to people for sure!
Camera looks a bit variable but reckon they'll improve it over next 3 months through software update.
Also the battery will be fine. The dude in the presentation is right, some people are getting way too hung up on specs alone without looking at the overall picture. Everyone I know with a 3 or 3T never once complained about battery life.

Sorry but this makes no sense to me, a more relevant comparison would be:
OnePlus 5 - 5.5" screen, 128gb etc... £499.
iPhone 7 Plus - 5.5" screen, 128gb etc... £819.
That's a difference of £320.

Well, I hate to break it to you guys, but that was true for a few weeks after the launch. After the update, 6GB of RAM did wonders to me and my multitasking. And even without that update, you could still use all 6GB without any issues with a really small and simple fix from xda.
I am sure that OP5 will use those 6GB from the start. OP3/T proved to be best Android device when it came to holding apps in background. And not just by a small margin, but with a really great margin. And I am sure OP5 will do the same.
But saying that, I am rather sceptical about 8GB version. I have nothing against adding more RAM, but 8GB is a overkill, and if they allow all of 8GB to be used, then the battery life won't be so great. So I do consider 8GB to be a complete marketing gimmick.
But the thing that interested me the most is UFS2.1 dual channel storage. Read/Write speeds on OP5 are insane, even when compared to current flagships. So faster installs, faster app loading times, and faster swapping (if this is even needed on a 6/8GB phone).
2 have been already ordered, but not by me, but by my friends. I will first see how they feel in my hand, and if they aren't to slippery (sigh, iPhone 6 design...), I will order one ASAP. OP3/T was and is the best Android device I have ever used. So I will order OP5, but only if it doesn't feel in the hand as iPhone 6/6s/7.

Vibration motor proves that, and that was my main complaint with OnePlus devices overall. Now that has been fixed, I just hope that they can improve on camera with updates as well.

I am just toying with maybe going for the regular 5 6gb and save €60 as I don't really need 128gb storage and 64 would be enough. I do think 8gb maybe overkill.
How many apps can you hold in the background on the OP3T. Would I get my 14 or so regular apps (facebook / dialer / messages / messenger / play newstand / play music / youtube / tapaptalk / calendar / gallery / photos etc ...

Besides facebook & messanger, I use almost all the same apps as you. But I would add just audible, whats app, sofa score and a couple of small utility apps. And all of those run on my OP3T without refreshing. About 15-18 apps. No games. And even after a couple of days there will be no refresh at all.
That is why I love my OP3T so much. Without refreshing apps, this thing is the fastest phone out there. OP5 is a little bit faster, at least so the reviews say. I will probably update, but still want to check out the phone in person, because I have 'iphonephobia', the most slipperiest device I have ever used 🙂

That sounds perfect and my idea of how things should work. I think I'll go with the 6gb ram version.
I place a premium on speed and fluidity. S8's are good but as I've used my Plus it has slowed down over the course of a couple of months, and it's not like Sammy's stuff is Road Runner out of the box to begin with. From that vantage point I think the OP5 is a great value.
All of the reviews I've seen thus far have said the screen is good to excellent.
Ok. Imo, for most purposes, I don't there is a significant difference in performance between the two.
So the decision I think is mainly about paying a bit more for the s8 design, better screen, water proofing and wireless charging. Also don't forget Samsung included a good pair of akg head phonesas well.

At the moment, here in Amsterdam (Netherlands) at the One Plus Pop Up Store there about 30/40 people in line. Store opens in about 3 hours from now.
I just saw Flossy Carter's first video (unboxing), now I am in doubt again (I turned from ''want one'' to ''nahhh...nevermind'') to pick one up here at the Pop Up store... I live about 10 minutes from that Store.
hmmm decisions...decisions 😉
