Just read that over 60% of the flash RAM for the iPad is made in Japan, so any additional delays may be also due to the what I cannot really call disaster or catastrophe in Japan, its going beyond that and is really apocalyptic. I don't know if Apple has stored enough of those parts and as far as I know Apple its driven by as little inventory as possible if I remember correctly. So, if that is true than the current shipment delays may be there for quite some time or even increase. Sucks for us but even more for the poor people in Japan...

What really gets me is that if you call an apple store it immediately says "The iPad 2 is here..." and even at the store they have a sign that reads "we have sold out today, but ask an expert on how you can get yours tomorrow" - And they don't know if they will even have any or when. I think this is the first time I have seen such random inaccurate statements by Apple.

Toshiba and other manufacturers have been announcing plant closings over the past couple of days, and flash spot prices are up 25%. You are right about the inventory; Apple must be running Just In-Time to keep costs down.

Yeah I agree I am more concerned about Japan than when the iPad's will be available....:(

If everything goes correct, we are talking about three nuclear power plants shut down, for good. The price of electricity in Japan is going to increase significantly. Those with orders at 5 weeks or more may well be very lucky to see their orders at all.

There is a breach of the containment building...
The northern part of Japan is where a significant part of their manufacturing occurs.

Maybe Apple were better off launching April 1....Apple would still be ahead of the competition so there's no need to be overly agressive and launch early with limited supply just to get a leg up on the competition

Apple is out to make money by providing what people want now, not next month. Apple has the product, and they have buyers. I'll have my iPad in two days, and thousands and thousands of people already have theirs.

No more Ipad2's until this summer.

No more Ipad2's. Airplanes and ships are going to be stopped in the pacific due to the nuclear fallout from the reactors. The Winds are blowing radioactivity over the ocean. The US military is already pulling there ships out of the Pacific due to sailors reporting high levels of radiation.

"U.S. warships and planes helping Japan's earthquake and tsunami relief efforts have moved away from the country's Pacific because of low-level radiation from a stricken nuclear power plant, the U.S. Navy said on Monday.

The U.S. Seventh Fleet, in a statement, described the move as precautionary measure."

LOL yeah, okay. I'm sure. Because it's not like our ENTIRE ECONOMY depends on Asian products. If this were true, this country would be in an economic depression in a day.

I hate resellers

That picture of the china-men waiting on line in NYC really got on my nerves. Its so clear they are buying to resell in China. Aple needs to put a strict 1-per-order policy....if you have a family of 2, or3, thats fine, let everyone show up at the store..

My biggest decision on launch day was what store to go to.
My Walmart didn't have them. AT&T and Verizon only had 3G Models. Didn't check Target but I'm sure they got a few.
I called the Apple store by us at 11am that day and there was already quite a line.

Went to Best Buy at 2:30pm and there was no line so I left and came back at 4pm to find about 20 or so people in line... at 4:30 they started going to each person in line and asking them which one they wanted at which time they'd check on it and give you a paper voucher to hold on to.
Waited in line 'till 6pm, got my iPad 2 black wifi 32gb, checked out and was on my happy way!!

I can't imagine Walmart being that organized...

Yesterday, they moved the Reagan Strike Group away from the plume and washed the affected helos and crewmembers off. Today, they flew even more sorties than they did yesterday. The Navy isn't pulling out, they're just being careful not to get into the plume.

"China-men". Did I wake up in the 1950's, try to at least mask your prejudice a little.

You do understand that ships and airplanes are able to travel in more than one direction right?

It's the Nintendo Wii marketing strategy. Keep the shelves empty to keep demand high.

That might have worked last year. But now if someone goes to Best Buy to get an iPad 2... and they are sold out... someone might get a Xoom instead.

I hope not... for their sake.

But there are a lot of uninformed consumers out there...

ordered 32 GB wifi black on launch day at about 3:08 AM E.S.T. Got it today, March 15th, two days ahead of March 17th date on tracking notice.
