64GB Wifi + 3G ordered at 12:37pm PST on Friday, 3/11 (22 minutes before it was scheduled to go onsale and about two minutes after the site went live). Got confirmation email at 2:02am, with "3-5 day" shipping estimate and "March 18-25" delivery estimate. No tracking number yet.

Looks like Apple uses some other criteria for deciding who gets their device, since 'first come first served' doesn't seem to apply.

You do understand that ships and airplanes are able to travel in more than one direction right?

No more IPAD2 for some time:

I was just told by fedex 3/12/11 @ noon today that air shipments from china has been grounded! Fedex got a note today at there company stores. Thats what is causing the delay in the IPAD2.

If you put two and two together that sounds like what Japan is doing too due to the Radiation levels over the ocean.

See for yourself, Call Fedex stores and try to ship something to China there going to tell you NO can do... I just checked

32 gig Wifi only (black) iPad delivered to NC!

Delivered 2 days earlier than Fedex posted originally. :)

Two, 32 gig ipads (wifi only) - Black

Ordered online at apple.com 15 minutes after they went on sale (4am on the east coast).

Came from China, then Hong Kong, then Alaska, then Tennessee, to Raleigh.

Good luck folks! Hope the rest start shipping quickly.

Perhaps for now but FedEx will reroute the flights eventually, to suggest that iPad sales will stop until summer (three months from now) is ridiculous and laughable. All freight and shipments out of the far east will be grounded for three months? Better start stocking up on supplies it will be the apocalypse for that to happen.

<------

This China-man received his about 15 min ago. I ordered it about 10 min after it went live on apple's site. 32gbWifiWhite

BTW, no, I'm not reselling it for profit. <^><^>

So, what do you call what is happening in Japan at the moment if not apocalyptic? Lets see, earthquake (worst ever for Japan), tsunami destroying entire cities, vulcanic eruption (that one didn't do much harm but still) and on top of that nuclear reactors exploding and disintegrating by the day... Sounds pretty apocalyptic to me.

But I agree, FedEx will reroute and thats that (for now).

It's the Nintendo Wii marketing strategy. Keep the shelves empty to keep demand high.

yeah because having sold 15MM in 9 months means demand isnt already high...

sorry but i think theres a much simpler explanation -- they cant make these things fast enough to keep up w/ demand. you know, just like when the iphone4 was released.

I envy those who got their Apple iPad 2 at Walnut Creek today. LUCKY! I quit hunting for today. I guess there is always better luck tomorrow. From what I heard, they only had 40 iPad 2's to sell and I was short by like 10 people, BOOOOO!

That picture of the china-men waiting on line in NYC really got on my nerves. Its so clear they are buying to resell in China. Aple needs to put a strict 1-per-order policy....if you have a family of 2, or3, thats fine, let everyone show up at the store..

How do you know these men are not buying it for themselves?
Should race or ethnicity be a qualifier to buy iPads?
Should I be mad if I saw a line of Armenian or Russian men standing at the Apple store?

Everybody has the same rights to get in line and buy an iPad as everyone else.

Guess I'll never get another device on launch day

Went on launch day to get my iP4, waited 4hrs, said never again. I'll pre order and have it delivered same day or next. That strategy played out well. Hell at this rate might as well wait for the 3 since I was really wanting the screen upgrade. If I hadn't read there were already lines at 8am I might have taken off an hour or two early. Oh well.

Stuck in International Shipment Release?

Anyone else with a tracking number from FedEx have their iPad 2 stuck in AK with the status of International Shipment Release? My has been there 24 hours now. Sigh.

EDIT: not more than two minutes after I post this, it updated to departed AK.

LOL---Mine sat in that status for 24 hours also. I am now annoyed that it has been at the Fedex facility in Newark, NJ for 18 hours. It should have made the oh, 30 minute ride maximum to the Edison, NJ Fedex facility so that it could be on tomorrow's truck to my house, also in Edison along with the cover. What's it doing there so long? Making friends? Looks like it'll be delivered on 3/17 for no good reason, when it could be here on 3/16, however at the end of the day, I will live!;)

Update: Looks like it made the 20min trip to Elizabeth from Newark (considering that part of the airport is in Elizabeth this is strange) and is hanging out there probably till tomorrow night. Looks like it won't arrive a day earlier than expected. :(

Have the iPad, iPad2 is being delivered in a couple of days, will probably get the iPad3 (or whatever they decide to call it) when it comes out too.
Just can't help myself

Very disappointed in Apples marketing and distribution of IPAD2. Went to two different apple stores last Sat and Sunday, no product, was told to come Monday, will get delivery then. I had my daughter wait in line at 0830 for 10am opening(about 15 people in line), Apple employee came out and informed us that no product to be shipped today.
On line store is looking at mid to late April right now, what is wrong with this picture, Apple had plenty of time to ramp of the inventory, for March 11, appears to have been slapped together two days prior to launch.
My best guess for this boondoggle handling of distribution:
1. Marketing ploy to keep hype and demand up.
2. Apple wants the media to cover the hype, shortage and demand exposed.
It may not make a difference in bottom line sales, but how many people will not buy due to frustration and give up?

Agreed. On the other hand, 80-90% of the people in the line at the Fifth Avenue store were Chinese -- definitely not representative of the NYC population (or even that population including tourists). So something was going on.

Not that different from any other high demand products.
Holiday season, hot toys, same scenario, early birds get the worm, everyone else leaves with sour grapes :p Same thing with video game consoles like the Wii when it was first released.

If you want a product where the demand exceeds the supply AND you don't want to pay more than the retail price, unless you just "luck out", than you have to be an early bird. OR just wait it out until the supply catches up with the demand. In this respect Apple is no different than Nintndo or any other company tha produces a highly popular, in-demand product.

That's life!

Sorry that your iPad2 is not coming as early as you expected BUT on the bright side you will be getting it, and not sitting around complaining because you waited too late to get in on the first shipments ;)

Cheer up :D

I got my Att 3G-WIFI 32GB via FEDEX... Here is a picture of it.

Looks great! Enjoy :D

I'm always puzzled at the lack of logic when people get frustrated. As if Apple waiting a month to start selling ipads could mean that you get yours faster. Really people? I mean really? Nobody is that stupid.

Yes, some people are :p
Seriously, I think it's the frustration talking and logic just goes out of the door ;)

I highly doubt they are holding back supply for publicity or to keep demand high.

-each iPad shipped is more cash in the bank (I know they have tons of cash already but still more is better than less)

-each iPad in the wild is free advertising for them generating word of mouth interest.

-customers won't be lured by competitors tablets if they have an iPad 2 in hand

-businesses don't like to unnecessarily frustrate customers.

I couldn't have said it more eloquently myself
