So I see that this is not coming to the Ipad from the comments he made, more of a concept to show how simple it is to do and how on wifi it runs fast and smooth.

I was more impressed with how smooth the ipad went from one game to another to watching people, very impressed, and we get all that power in the iphone 4 in a matter of weeks, I am so excited. :p

Now I will just need to wait for the next gen. ipad and I will be set, looks like this may be my last laptop.

I'm still really skeptical about this. There is no way you can stream 1080p content and input from a computer/set-top box thing with zero latency. I have enough trouble loading webpages as it is. Unless I live in Sweden or Korea, and OnLive is next door, connected via fibre optics, I don't see how this could feasibly work.

I know, I know, the demos show it "working." But still.

I believe it max's out @ 720p.

This seems way to good to be true. Playing games like Borderlands on the iPad?... Over WiFi?.. With no lag?... o_O I smell some sneaky 5h17.

If it is true and along as it streams with a decent resolution with absolutly NO lag then they will not only drive sales for the iPad BEYOND current demand but we will begin to see people playing WoW in the daylight!!! O.O my gawd!

There will be plenty of lag, don't worry about that. Unlike playing a game now on a bad connection there will also be additional input lag too.

What people seem to forget is no internet means no play... If OnLive goes under you lost every thing you spend your money on.. So what do you have to show? Nothing but money through away.. It is just better to give your money to a homeless guy...

Yes, because homeless guys spend their money so wisely. A shelter or food kitchen, maybe yes, but not for the reason you say.

What you get out of a game subscription service is fun. Games are an ephemeral experience anyway--you play them, you move on to the next one. There is never anything tangible to show for it, except discs and cartridges that become outdated and eventually end up in the $1.00 bin.

If you value charity more than playing games, yes, you should donate your money to a worthy organization.

I wonder if they're really streaming all the graphic content, or rather if the graphic content loads on the local device and all that actually streams are the runtime instructions.

Not always. Rare games cost a lot more than retail, and popular games rarely drop in price. Second hand Mario Galaxy 2 discs go for £2-5 less than retail - it's nothing.
A lot of people don't move on with games. There's a rather new "disposable" gaming ideology rising from mobile phone and iPhone games, outside of that people buy games and continue to play them for years to come. All of my gamer buddies do that. Because so many people do this devs re-release products for a new generation; FFVII on PSN, Pokemon Gold/Silver remakes have all topped the gaming charts. Nintendo just announced an update for Goldeneye and you can bet that will also top the charts.

Everything is streamed from their servers.

Eh no longer believe in this company. This stuff seems mostly like vaporware now.

Yes it makes a nice demo, but I think the realities of what they are trying to pull off aren't going to work financially speaking and the evidence this is so is the fact they were supposed to release this sht last year.

Its nonsense, yes you can sign up and if you are lucky get picked (according to onlive).

However i do not know of anybody who got picked and there are not any videos available from users.

So yes, it is indeed pretty much vaporware and will most likely never see the light of day because latency is a problem which cannot be fixed. You could make it work if you put server in every city with a fiber optics user base.

At this point in technology it is only suitable for 2D Point and Click Adventure Games.

Are you saying On Live are lying? Seriously, is that what you're implying?

That a company, heavily funded and with partnership with EA, Ubi etc etc are simply making up a website, taking people's 1 years founder subscriptions, and lying about the service?

The lack of savvy is astonishing.

With service like this, you have to roll out slowly. Look at openings for MMOs - they stagger the service, with early starts for pre-orders - that isn't just to let some people to get a head-start, that's to technically not overload their servers.

Which happens anyway, which you would know if play any game served online. What On Live want to do is bold, and their partners think it's technically doable.

I personally don't like it because of the sub model. But I'm not going to talk crap about them and imply that they're lying.

1. There motives may be pure but yes, they are for sure bending the truth of available technology like Uri Geller. As someone stated before they wanted to launch the service in 2009, which of course did not happen.

2. You cannot compare MMO to this service because the main problem is Latency. A minor detail which cannot be fixed at this stage of time. Yes you could, as i stated, put server in very well connected places of the earth and it would work given optimal conditions but then you would need to pay subscription fees in the amount of thousands of dollars.

3. Given AT&T´s track record with the iPhone i would not care to much about what they think is doable or not.

4. Technology does not lie, i do not need millions of dollars and partnerships with big game publisher to know what is possible (technology and economy wise) and what isnt.
