As people above have stated, it's not convenient for people to bring their spouses to sign up for a phone. I thought AT&T limited it to 3 per person last year?

Good. I'm glad that they are doing one per person, because last time people bought two so they could sell one on ebay for 300+ more money. Stop being greedy, if they have a limited amount and everyone gets two, there will be not as many for other people to buy. Just wait a day or 2 to buy a second one.

Or bring two people with you ( if its a family plan ) otherwise stay home!

Last year at my AT&T store people were camping out. I am not going to spend more than about an hour in line. If need be I'll wait a few days to get mine. Do you think the local AT&T stores will get larger initial quantities than they did with the 1st IPhone? Do you think Apple stores will have larger quantities?

I hope they have more since there wont be online buying through AT&T or Apple

I doubt that will be the practice. They'd be morons to do so.
I'm getting a family plan and two phones. It doesn't make any sense. They can't sell a plan for two people and not sell you both phones to complete the transaction. They're going to hold the transaction half way through and make you stand in line again? Not likely.

when you sign up for the family plan its for 2 lines so they have to activate both phones i believe

I just spoke with my ATT store. They confirmed 1 iPhone per "person" in line. I guess my 7 year old will be kickin it with me!

Without limits you will have people in line buying the max (5 iPhones) just to cancel lines 2-5, pay the $175, and put the four extra iPhones on eBay. It's annoying, but I understand it.

If you really want two or more iPhones, come back in a day or two after the furor has died down.

I wonder if they'd let our beagle buy one, he thinks he's a person...... We need to each get one and then another for a good friend.

I guess it's to stop the Ebayers from buying all of them at once and selling them online as a profit.

and it also makes the line go by much quicker, etc.

When I camped out for the Wii some jerk was 1st in line since the day before and wanted to buy out all the Wii's and sell them online  The manager basically laughed at him and told him only one Wii per person.

Seems sort of odd they would enforce a 1 per person especially for people who have 2 iphones on their AT&T plan and your going to purchase both at the same time thats really inconviencing customers.

this isnt cool.

hopefully its not as busy as last year, because i was intending on getting a phone for me, and a phone for my dad. we are cancelling alltel to come to ATT, just FOR the iPhone and they wont let us get it.. pretty funny. i understand the reasons, but still.
