I'm on my 4th (went through them in under 60 days). I ultimately settled for one with a blue tint on the camera. Compared to all the other problems I had (first 3 phone was virtually unusable, 1 was delivered with a red water sensor as well) this isn't bad. Love the phone otherwise.

Many folks have reported the same. In my case, it was in a case. It had no screen protector because when I bought it on day one the GENIUS bar told me NOT to use one and that Apple would not longer sell them nor promote them.
(and the Genius bar has now acknowledged that that was bad advice and is now carrying screen protectors...)

I dropped it from about knee high. In a case. I think they are starting to see that their glass isn't working out so well. A phone in a case should survive a tiny drop. So they replaced it. And told me it was a one time courtesy. Now it's in an otterbox.

I always smile when the barebackers say they are "careful" and it will "never happen to" them. Even today I was walking and a skateboarder went by me and knocked my otterbox protected phone out of my hand. Imagine that without a good solid case. :)

Perhaps I should start using a case now. I like the smooooth back feel of the bare phone though.

Refurbished phones? That's not right. You paid for a new product not a refurbished one. It's really the principle of the thing.
I mean, you go, pay and get a new iPhone, you open it, activate it and see something's wrong; you go complain and they just give you one that's been unsealed. Returned for some reason, repaired even. That's not right!

Refurbished from Apple = new. They replace components and guarantee them for as long as a new device. You're likely better off getting a refurb after abit.

Do I have a case for some sort of compensation from Apple?

My various trips to the apple store, not to mention my inability to use my phones properly during my saga has ate up a lot of my personal time and money.

I'm on my 3rd iPhone.

Returned my launch-day iPhone because I wasn't happy with the antenna performance (this was before the bumper program)

Second iPhone 4 developed a faulty home button. A single click would register as 2 and sometimes none at all.

My third iPhone 4 is perfect. Not a single issue. All buttons are tight, no rattling, no home button problems, no screen problems and no battery problems.

Hopefully I can keep this iPhone for longer than the other 2.

Refurbished iPhones are usually better than new iPhones.

The funny thing is... I had problems with 2 new iPhones and none with the refurbished one.

I also had problems with the iPhone 3G and when I got a refurbished one, it was perfect.

I just think they put the refurbished iPhones together more carefully than a factory over in china where they pump out thousands an hour.

Same

I went through 3 replacements in 3 days.

First my original iPhone: Dropped it in the toilet (lol)
They replaced it with a refurb for me

Second phone: All whites were piss yellow. (should not be an issue anymore)

Third Phone: Microphone would not work during calls. It would work sometimes when tapping on it. It stopped working on me during a 911 call and REALLY pissed me off.

Now my Fourth phone I just picked up today. Lets see how this one goes.

These refurbed phones are complete pieces of ****.

Wow. I think your odds are better with refurbs due to my experiences, but you got some crap phones (the first phone got crap ;-))

I'm just afraid that once I get this iPhone replaced the new one they give me will have all the same dlsfkjdsiofjs problems my first four had.

If I complain enough do you think they will give me apple care for free? Has this ever happened before?

NO! They will not give you AppleCare for free. Just keep complaining until you are happy, thats about as much as you can do.

Like an AppleCare advisor once told me, and now I pass this message along to you. DO NOT LEAVE THE STORE UNTIL YOU ARE HAPPY.

+1 for using the word "laced".

lol.

Anyways I actually got my 5th iPhone today...I complained and they can't give me anything.

They offered me a 10% off discount card (one time use) that I must use within the next 30 days.

Sad.

i had so many issues with my replacement 3G it wasnt even funny...granted this is a thread about the iPhone 4, but i just dont think the quality of the replacement phones is that great. they can tell me they are in good working (new) condition, but after i have to go to the apple store 3 days in a row...not fun.

sucks though, i feel your pain

crazy about these stories full of issues....guess im really fortunate to not have ANY problems on my first and only iphone 4.

Plus + 5 for my family as all of us have iPhone 4's and all of them work perfect, although my younger son has his replaced once by Apple for a non working Mic, but his new one is better then anything.

I also have my 3GS I bought in 2009 and it works except I need to replace the audio jack because it keeps stating that the accessory is not mean to work with this phone when you plug in a headset and then the volume bar goes away, but it is a spare phone anyway.

Man. This is why I hesitate getting one off eBay or Craigs.

I think the quality of the build for the new iOS devices are very crappy...just because of the volume of devices that they produce now.

No complaints on their computer and original iPhones...perhaps FoxConn is stretched too thin now.

You can guess why. :p
