Check out this review and tell me what you think. Seems like apples magnets are not that great. Also the product red on the non pro is not even red

Way better video about Magsafe, magnets definitely seem good and strong enough for tripods/car mounts/etc... Only thing that seems stupid to me personally is the wallet although I'm sure someone will find it useful in some way.

I saw this earlier. I just disagree with Marcus with relation to the wallet. I have the MagSafe already and tried it out with the case and it holds really strong. I see what he’s saying but there is always a chance that I miss my pocket when putting my wallet away. I think its an edge case. YMMV.

Maybe the magnets in the wallet aren’t strong. On my MagSafe charger and case though its really strong.

MKBHD had a segment in his video where the wallet came off just by sliding the phone into his pocket. Strikes me as a horrible idea.

And from his demo, he explicitly stated (I think) that the magnets did not seem strong enough for a car mount. A tripod would work though.

I watched this video a few hours ago.

The magnet strength is not a deal breaker for me. I don’t plan on hanging it anywhere. The wireless chargers I use now aren’t magnetic at all.
The mag wallet. I have no interest in whatsoever. The wallet I use now is perfect. Also I much rather forget and leave my phone home than my wallet.
I don’t want them together.

The whole mag safe thing is ok but I would be cool without it.

I think Magsafe is a gimmick at this point until it's more refined. There was a video review of the MagSafe wallet (forgot which one), but the wallet fell off when putting it into the pocket.

It's also not truly wireless if you have to pull the magnet off when picking up your phone. At that point, it makes more sense to me personally to just plug it in and have even faster charging. I can still use my phone while plugged in, and just unplug it when I'm done just like MagSafe.

I agree the wallet is a horrible idea if you're planning on putting your phone in your pocket. I think it's more made for people who throw their phone in their purse or something like that.
As for the magnets not being strong enough for a car mount, I'm sure it'll be strong enough. Gotta remember that the car mount also is supposed to be "made for magsafe" having magnets inside it and not being just made out of metal.

I think MagSafe has a ton of potential and I’m looking forward to see how third parties come up with creative ways to use it. I’m not going to judge it based solely on the few accessories that are out now.

Not that great in what sense? The strength? Or the quality of the actual MagSafe charger?
In strength. I just wanted feedback to see what your views were. ultimately if the magnets bring your phone quicker to the correct placement so you never have to worry about your phone missing the charge then It Has accomplished its mission. Also the 15w over the 7.5 Qi charging doesn’t hurt either

One review mentioned how you could still use the phone when connected, such as being able to hold it up. This is versus the normal charging picks that don’t allow that kind of use.

MagSafe is the solution for a problem that Apple engineers are currently cooking (the port-less iPhone, they will be skipping USB-C altogether).

Yep. The courage to go port-less! "But by now you already have MagSafe with you, do you not? We can sell one to you!" These millions of chargers that people will want to (and end up) buying are going to be environmentally friendlier than the ones they stopped shipping because now it will adding to Apple's bank account.

I have been holding up going wireless charging because of it only being 7.5 watt. The 15 watt is what does this for me, plus the proper alignment. I couldn't care less about the need for one or two hands for removal.

I like the idea of Magsafe. Honestly the biggest problem with QI pucks currently is improper alignment leading to poor or no charging.

I also love the standardization it will bring. I'm sure there will be a slew of magsafe compatible chargers/car mounts etc. A much more robust solution than the proprietary mess that is the current magnetic mounting / charging landscape.

As for the "two hand removal." I'm pretty sure I'll be able to flick it off with a finger... OR just like double sided tape the damn puck to a paperweight or my nightstand if I want to.

At this point, why not just plug it in with the actual cable. This is what I don't understand.

I have an older Belkin wireless charger I got from Apple for my 11PM last year and I place my phone on it at night before I go to bed. When I get up, I just pick my phone up. This is what I think of when I hear "wireless charging". The moment I have to use another hand to remove the source of power, I might as well just plug it in.

This video might just entice me to cancel my Apple wallet order. I'm a wallet case person (actually, I only ever use the Smartish Wallet Slayer and love it) so I jumped all over the black Apple wallet...but not being able to slip it into my back pocket is cmopletely useless. Hadn't thought about that. I guess I assumed the magnets would be a LOT stronger.
