No...it's more ridiculous than funny though. Makes it seem like a core duo macbook is a punishment.
I agree! I went from using a 700 mhz Compaq that wasn't very good at all to a 2 gig MBP. Not a bad place to be stuck at all with a Core Duo MBP.

Updates before november 1st?

I recently bought a macbook to be able to do some windows-based work from home, but I found the graphics card was inadequate to run the apps I needed. I've tested the x1600 card in the macbook pro and it works great - however theres the right-around-the-corner dilemma to consider.

My main issue is a cosmetic one. I loved the magnetic closing mechanism on the macbook and I see that the current version of the pro still uses the old hook mechanism - this will probably be updated on the next version of the mbp. Also theres the core2 to think about and possibly if apple went and upgraded the graphics card or cut the price.

I need the mbp by november 1st, but of-course a head-start on setting up my working environment is always a good idea. My question is if its likely that the mbp will be upgraded in the period from now till november 1st?
