People like to knock Ashton Kutcher...and I get that. His past acting roles portray him as a bit of a vacuous goofball. Lol. But the man is not as stupid as the characters he has portrayed. He's a big techno-geek with a profound respect for Steve Jobs. He definitely resembles the man too. As a life long Apple user, I'm gonna give this movie a shot. The trailers actually look good.

His intelligence is not in question, nor is it the issue.

Acting skills, IMO, are...

From the trailer the movie looks cheap and nostalgic - a pastiche of Jobs' career. The soundtrack is trite cheese disco - not sure what that's about.

The wall-to-wall coverage of this movie (which looks pretty mediocre) on this site makes me wonder if MacRumors is being paid to promote the film.

If not, then I guess the studio is running a really good PR campaign.
I'm sure you have no problem with the wall-to-wall Samsung and Google coverage since that qualifies as true MacRumors "news and rumors you care about". What Apple fan who frequents such a site wouldn't prefer to have more non Apple related articles?

The real iPod introduction was a little more subdued than that...

Indeed. I was at that introduction and I can assure you there was no standing ovation (although there was some applause, I believe). At that time people were still quite skeptical of Apple, and Jobs, and you'd be hard-pressed to find many unambiguously enthusiastic, glowing reviews of the original iPod after its introduction. But hey, I guess you have to jazz it up a little for the drama.

Cheese disco sound track makes sence as it was around 80's in to later 90's not sure how much of Steve's story they will tell in this movie hopefully they will go in to 00's but that might make the movie too fast paced.

Ya

The clip where kutcher is screaming into the phone about making sure he gets .90¢ of every $1 is terrible. Kutcher screaming reminds me of trying to scream in a dream but not being able to produce sound. Maybe it's because I'm so familiar with Steve's voice after listening to him for 15 years, but everything about this seems awkward. I can see from the trailer and few clips that have made it online that it's so overacted it can't be taken seriously. (ie, trying to mimic his walk...)

Jesus...he never choked up during the voiceover for "the crazy ones". This is ridiculous.

Neither did Richard Dreyfus.

This. Looks. Terrible.

I don't feel like as a MacRumors regular I have any explanation for why I feel that way.

Seriously

I wonder how Steve would receive this movie. Seems awfully melodramatic and Hollywoodized to me. Not to mention that interesting soundtrack...

Looking forward to Aaron Sorkin's film.

Some kind of trendy, new-wave, hip-hop crap? I don't get it. Maybe the actual movie will be a bit more diverse.

Well it's obvious that Ashton put in a lot of hard work on this movie. Unfortunately, it didn't pay off. When he speaks he sounds exactly like Ashton Kutcher on 2 1/2 men. So much for suspension of disbelief.

Someone please come back to this thread after the movie has been released and post the youtube link. I'm looking forward to watching this movie for free as I wouldn't pay a dime to see it in theaters. Poopy.

Frankly doesn't look like that good of a movie. And I don't have any problems with Ashton Kutcher, but I would watch it depending on early reviews.

This is Ashton Kutcher's chance to really show that he can act.

I'm really looking forward to this movie.

really looking forward,

was hoping the iPod introduction would of been more realistic based on what happened, he didnt have no beard and didnt go grey just then and the place it was much more subdued

Ashton Kutcher in interviews gives more to that he knows what he is talking about than his movies that he has done in the past proves, in that respect im looking for it

admit in the ipod introduction the make up looks spot on, amazing how much he looks like him

Great Trailer. Looking forward to this.

I'm pretty impressed with Kutcher's make-up - he actually quite convincingly resembles Steve in all three of the "eras" portrayed.

He's totally overplaying Steve's hunched/limping gait in the later era, however. Steve may have walked a little like that in his last few years, but not to the extent that Kutcher is portraying it. And certainly not back in 2001 when the iPod was introduced.

Especially since the iPod intro was a 'Town Hall' event just for press. It was/is only usually the 'home crowd' such as at MacWorld or WWDC that cheer like crazy.

And yes, I suppose since they are to be ending the movie on the iPod, the cheering will convey the feeling people really had when they first got their hands on the iPod and perhaps the way people felt towards all of Apple's later innovations.

I seriously doubt that the event will be at 11am PST, since we are currently in Daylight Saving Time not Standard Time. It's more likely that it'll be at 11am PDT.

I won't even laugh when this bombs at the cinema. I simply could not care less even if I wanted to (which I don't).

This reeks of product placement hype. Curiously timed to attempt to take the buzz off the very strong showing being made in the Android space.

It seems like Apple took their eyes off the ball just long enough to allow the Google / Samsung juggernaut to zoom in and swiftly move to the front.
