Musk created it. Was supposed to be nonprofit. Altman is scum and only for greed. Reminds me of Cook, only worse.

Musk and Altman were both there equally at the beginning; they were co-chairs from the get-go... and they are both vile scum...

Someone has. Sure isn’t Musk. Far greater mind than anyone here or anyone anywhere alive on the planet.

Unfortunately "greater mind" doesn't equate to morals, ethics, honesty, humanity or compassion.

Look up Gwynne Shotwell if you want to see mind greater than his.

Remember that everything that Altman has was started by Musk. And Musk has proven to have more morals, more rockets, more electric cars, and well, just more of everything than Altman.

Remember that time Musk exposed himself to that flight attendant? Or when he was mad at the former head of Twitter trust and safety and accused him of being a pedo for no reason? And of course every company Musk “founded” he actually bought from someone else. Tell me more about Musk and morals.

"It's time for OpenAI to return to the open-source, safety-focused force for good it once was,"

Thats such bullcrap, Musk want it for himself so he can become richer and more powerful.

How would Musk buy that ? I know he has like 500 billions, but it's not liquid. Would he get rid of all his Tesla stocks ?
He already doesn't do anything anymore in this company. Would be bad for the stock, but good for Tesla in the long run for sure.

OpenAI ... "safety-focused force for good"?

Elon Musk owns about 13% of Tesla. If the recent (and not possibly not coincidental) drop in Tesla sales around the world continues will the board had a fiduciary duty to remove him as CEO ?

You are joking?
The guy is an imbecile but also a VERY good con man.
He hasn't really got a handle on what he's talking about and this can be seen in interviews when he's asked mildly technical questions. His ego is so big that instead of sharing the limelight, (with someone that actually knows the subject), he'd rather ramble through it in a disjointed and vague way that he hopes will convince people and it appears that he's convinced idiots in the millions, (no not aimed at you - really more at those that go to his keynotes and swallow the same vapourware time and time again.

I think this would be cool. Political hotheads are already vowing to sell their iPhones because they might connect to Starlink. Where they might go instead is not discussed. So if Musk buys Open AI those same hothead’s heads will explode. On his HBO show Bill Maher listed all the celebrities who vowed to leave the U.S. after the election... no one has yet.

Also remember that the thing that REALLY started Musk, (Tesla), was also started by somebody NOT Musk.
I'm guessing neither of you have bought a business and turned what was more or less a hobby/fun project in to a world phenomena? It isn't easy to do.

It isn't easy to do. All you have to do is look at Apple and see how many companies they have bought and either shut down or destroyed. Siri, Beddit, Drive.ai, Dark Sky, come to mind.

Musk just admitted that xAI sucks and they need OpenAI

The attempted takeover comes amid OpenAI's ongoing transition from a nonprofit to a for-profit structure, with the company recently valued at $157 billion.
Correction. It was recently valued at $260 billion when Softbank decided to invest $40 billion into OpenAI. After the Softbank investment, OpenAI would be worth $300 billion

SoftBank is close to finalizing a $40 billion primary investment in OpenAI at a $260 billion pre-money valuation, sources told CNBC’s David Faber.

SoftBank would pay out the funding, which would mean a $300 billion post-money valuation for OpenAI, over the next 12 to 24 months

You can’t reason or argue with political rage. Don’t even try to.
