OpenOffice can open docx, pptx, and xlsx files with limited functionality, for example some formatting will be messed up. NeoOffice can open and save in these formats and supports these formats much better.

The document format issue has been the reason I've stayed with NeoOffice for the time being...that and the fact that when I hit the "extension update" feature OO wigs out on me. I would like to ditch Java like I ditched X11 and previous to that MS, but so far NeoOffice is doing what I want it to.

Just waiting for the first OO 3 update.
