So partner is being a bit rubbish. He can't decide to go for a gold or platinum band. He hated the idea of gold, especially old fashioned round ones, at the start - he was dead set on having a flat, 5 or 6mm satin platinum band. Much more modern and suited to a man of his age (late 30s).

Now he's tried on a bunch of rings, he's taking a random liking to classic 3 and 4mm court shaped rings. Examples:

He seems conflicted between liking this classic style and knowing that it's not really in style and considered feminine at 3mm. I also know he's been trying to find photos of men wearing wedding bands on forums, and not having that much luck, it's mostly women who seem to be posting engagement and wedding rings.

What's your guys and ladies take on this. Biggest fear is to pick something out of a random whim then regret after a year. Must be some people who regretted this rings?

When I was married to my first wife I had a plain gold band, not entirely unlike the examples you cited (certainly not from Tiffany or Cartier), but a bit wider.

When my current wife and I got married, I got a two-tone yellow and white gold ring with diamonds, and I like it much better.

I personally like plain, classic gold rings, but the short answer is let him buy whatever he is happy with, and feels comfortable with, but suggest that he consider the ring which also suits his skin tone.

This is because, irrespective of fashion, (which is a poor season to buy a ring; fashion changes, whereas what is deemed classic is ageless and timeless) not everyone can wear - or look well in - every shade of silver or gold.

Oh My! Being subject to the changeable whims of fashion is a poor way to choose such a long lasting thing as a wedding ring. Is your partner's commitment to you also as changeable?
Choose what your partner and you want for the long term.

My first husband and I had matching gold rings. I'm allergic to gold. Nuff said.

No rings at all with second husband. Now that he's retired he swears a really pretty silicone ring. I buy myself whatever diamonds strike my fancy.

Get what you like. Get what is comfortable. Get what you'll wear. Don't spend a fortune. They're only rings.

What's wrong with that Boy?? :D

Those two rings are both very nice.

My wedding rig is two-tone gold and white gold with diamond cuts in the band.

I love it!!

Good Luck!!

My wedding band is platinum and gold. Also it is a comfort fit, the inside is convex and it really is comfortable to wear.

We made the decision together, like most major events in our life :)

Our bands are custom platinum, my wife's engagement, wedding and my wedding band came from her parents bands, they were melted down, cast into new bands, and then we had custom engraving done - the original stone we had mounted in a necklace, and I bought a diamond separately - really beautiful results all around.

Not really into gold jewelry, the wife has a few pieces, mostly earrings.

if your going with the plain, classic all good but this looks better in platinum. Un like gold it is difficult to re size platinum. bluenile.com is especially functional for the classic look.

consider a yellow gold channel ring with yellow diamonds or a platinum channel with light blue diamonds.

I tend to be rough on jewelry and wear a heavy ring. Lots of metal but not that much gold in it. this was a good call for me as it has been in the shop a few times.

anyway congratulations.

I’ve been very happy with my titanium ring that has a comfort fit on the interior.

This is certainly something that one is entitled to be picky about, as it is—hopefully—a lifelong decision.

It’s a personal preference. My wife just had her diamond remounted in platinum, along with a new platinum wedding ring. I think the Diamond looks better in a silverish mounting than a gold one. I don’t wear a wedding band.

Seperate note, I have always raged about the price of jewelry, what a rip off, especially diamonds because people will pay ridiculous prices for them. :)

good call

Diamonds can be natural or artificial colored.

ring:
life being the long & winding road, I need the symbol sometimes.

No band at all, I don't like jewellery on me, especially on my fingers. And I don't need the pretense of a boastful display of a band as a when the trust between my partner and I is all that is needed. Traditions are man-made and overrated, and are meant to be changed. :p

I know women who wear fake engagement rings to keep guys in their office at check. Works too.

I'm surprised this is an issue. Surely a husband and wife should discuss what band the other should wear, but geez, let the man wear what he wants. Be grateful he wants to wear anything. I don't wear anything at all. My wife doesn't give a damn. She loves her band and engagement ring and wears hers. If she doesn't want them anymore, we sell em and buy something we like.

I don't t think there's any right out wrong answer. What ever makes you happy. BTW I dint wear a wedding band even though I've been married for 15+ years

Going on 18 years and have never worn one.

I have a classic gold band that's maybe 4mm and I have big hands- about size 11.
We had matching rings made and I would think that's a good way to go.
I think having something thin with the classic rounded edges makes them less likely to catch on things when I'm doing DIY etc. I only wear the one ring for that reason- I've had problems with chunky rings in the past.
I don't think it looks feminine just subtle.
Platinum rings are way more expensive to stretch if that's any help.
If he goes platinum tell him not to put on too much weight!

He tried on a couple of 3mm's the other day and they did admittedly look a touch on the small side. You think 1mm makes much difference with rings generally?

Wife purchased a simple platinum band for me. Love it.

be more aware of the ring size when buying a platinum ring. ck into it but Blue Nile could have a functional return policy if the ring size is off.

Saga is over, he settled on a 4mm gold, modern shape, polished ring. He'd sort of decided on a very classic gold 4.5mm, with a dome shape. Surprisingly heavy. Looked like something out of Lord of the Rings. Ultimately it was a touch impractical and the pronounced 3D effect of the shape made it a little more eye catching than he was comfortable with! Very cool though.

Thanks guys for chipping in, does help :)
