When I see a phone like this it reminds me that Apple has decided to hold onto the asthetic it has had for the last 10? 15? years. I'm not saying the organic curves look better, but at least they are different.
Don't under estimate China and its business. Just look at Lenevo which has a massive chunk of the West's desktop and laptop market. Oppo btw has an excellent reputation in various types of electronics. As for me, I'd rather pay more or if need have slightly less features than to buy an Chinese business's product.Typical China war rhetoric against the west. That country is going full nationalistic lately. Just a week back Xiaomi called on a war with Apple as well.
Every time some news related to Oppo you get I never heard of these guys comments. Per Wiki:Like, I’ve heard of Xiaomi, but I’ve never heard of these guys. They’re getting off to a bad start if they want to compete with Apple with that hardware, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon is probably the best Android SoC, but Apple has a 2+ year performance lead on top of the line Snapdragon chips. And an image sensor from 2015?! I know we’re talking no-name Chinese tat (and I suppose we should be grateful they’re not using a MediaTec SoC), but that’s not how you compete with custom hardware on performance.
(Actually, Xiaomi and Oppo probably just mean, “we’ll try to get better at making iPhone look-alikes without actually challenging Apple’s hardware in any meaningful way”.)
They are a subsidiary of BBK founded 1995 which makes television sets, media players, digital cameras and smartphones. It is one of the world's largest smartphone manufacturers just behind Samsung with the following brands under it Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, Realme and iQOO (a former sub-brand of Vivo). Most audiophiles remember Oppo Digital, that was theirs. Yes they have partnered with Mediatek many times as the SoC utilized in lots of products. The brand name "Oppo" was registered in China in 2001 and launched in 2004. Since then, the company has expanded to 50 countries. In June 2016, OPPO became the largest smartphone manufacturer in China, selling its phones at more than 200,000 retail outlets. OPPO was the top smartphone brand in China in 2019 and was ranked No. 5, in market share, worldwide.
Only so many ways to make a slab of glass with sensors and speakers on it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯When I see a phone like this it reminds me that Apple has decided to hold onto the asthetic it has had for the last 10? 15? years. I'm not saying the organic curves look better, but at least they are different.
At that price, you'd be crazy to go for OPPO instead of Samsung or Apple. The Oppo Find X5 Pro will be released in the U.K. on March 24 in both glaze black (seen in our photos) and ceramic white for 1,049 British pounds. This converts to around $1,485. For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra starts at 1,149 pounds. (Digital Trends)
That is true, but look at how distinctive each design is when the details are considered. I still think Apple isn't designing like it has in the past or at least it has decided to stick more closely to a certain aesthetic.Only so many ways to make a slab of glass with sensors and speakers on it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
When they advertise the higher specs and you know that they are not as responsive as an iPhone, they are really just advertising an inefficient code base.If the iPhones are supposedly garbage from the view of the android world, with phrases such as:
Being repeated all these years amongst others, then why Android mobile manufacturers commit to challenge to become or topple an iPhone? It should be to challenge “the best”, another Android… dropping the ball on the narrative there imo.
- “iPhones only have 2,3,4,6 GB of RAM! Or three cores! Or only [name specification here]”
- “while our flagship phone has double the ram, triple the cores! Triple the [random specification]”
Yeah, OnePlus has significantly better brand recognition in the US. I’m not sure why they’re not using the OnePlus brand for this initiative but are doing it with their Oppo brand. OnePlus already had a name for (upper mid range) flagship Android phones (below the latest Galaxy phones, but definitely in flagship-ish range). But… BBK (alternatingly the largest or second largest phone manufacturer in the world) already sells in North America and most non-Chinese markets with their OnePlus brand.
Are we still pretending like 10 years ago that OnePlus is a fake start-up, complete with a fake “founder” (that is a BBK employee), and fake start-up culture pretending they’re in San Francisco? Or maybe the tech press and useful idiots on the internet are still too embarrassed they swallowed it all hook, line, and sinker?
The problem is the same as Blackberry and others. They were on top, until they weren't. If Oppo innovates and delivers quality products with fewer bugs, more cohesive product line, and enough marketing to make them seem to be the new thing they could easily overtake Apple.
Let's face it, Apple caters to not so smart consumers spending their parents money and just want to be like some superstar that also uses an iPhone. Apple iPhones are a fashion statement thanks to Apple's focused marketing.
Apple's bureaucracy and nannyisms makes it an easy target. Sure Apple has momentum, but so did Nokia and Blackberry. When was the last time Apple innovated. Heck, they can't even deliver on time the functionality they announce at Keynotes.
Thank you for addressing this post. Some people are so ensconced in their own bubble they fail to see that doctors, lawyers, ceos use iphones for reasons of their own. People who one would think are more than "not so smart." Additionally, if you want to believe that people buy iphones for it's "cool image" it's also fair to say people buy some android phones, purely on specs.I disagree about the 'not so smart consumers' comment. I know plenty of IT professionals who use iPhones for a number of reasons. I do agree that many buy an iPhone for its 'cool' image. I also really agree about Apple's nannyisms. On a final note, it's not just momentum - Apple is on top of their game right now in so many aspects. If anything, their competitors in the mobile market are looking at bit shaky to me.

Assembled in China but Apple still has control over hardware, software, Manufacturer in China doesn't control what hardware is used in iPhone, I am sure Apple controls what packaging to be used and everything is tested and validated in US.iPhones are assembled in China as well (mostly).
the first iPhone ? did any one had a phone like iPhone before iPhone was launched ?The problem is the same as Blackberry and others. They were on top, until they weren't. you know that's just your opinion, you are imagining stuff, that day people will get to know that Apple is selling customers information to Chinese government people will stop buying them, till that day people will buy iPhones.Just where do you think iPhones are made? You really think that Apple would not adapt to Chinese pressure. After all China has the largest population on the planet. China and India both have almost 1 billion more consumers than the US. You think Apple does not know that and wouldn't trade your privacy for easier access to either of those markets?
Oh, and let's not forget our politician's and Hollywood's enthusiasm for anything China is willing to spend money on.
I think Lenovo purchased IBM Laptop/Desktop division before becoming global player.Don't under estimate China and its business.
