Yea, great.
Now compare it to the battery life of 16PM.
Who the hell ever asked for thinner device, just like with AI in phones they will now try to shove it down our throats like we all begged for it.
do you think Apple will force you to buy it?

Good to hear about this. Wonder why Samsung is not having a slimmer foldable. Maybe in the near future they will launch it. Waiting for Apple's first foldable.

Imagine all competing companies needing to agree on one standard.

Oddly enough, much of what is in USB-C is similar to Lightening. The one thing I think they should have done was make the male end the cable and the female the port.

If that could've been done we wouldn't have needed the legislation to begin with.

Legislation or not, the major companies were all going to USB-C; they all were involved in setting up the standard to ensure it met their needs. At best it sped up the adoption by a year or so; it would not surprise me if the dates in the rule were negotiated by the manufacturers as well.

Thinner the better for a foldable because it doubles in thickness when folded. I can see why thinness is a selling point for a device that folds.

Given that smartwatches do not feature a USB-C port and are available across the EU, I have to wonder how long before the welcome pursuit of thinner products results in the loss of the dataport altogether in favour of pure Qi2 which takes up a lot less room?
wireless charging is inefficient.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple tries to release a portless phone and then the EU says “the spirit of the law” is that all phones charge via usb-c and fine Apple 20% of global revenue for daring to release it.

The regulation specifically allows wireless charging and does not require a port, only USB-C if there is a port.

I’m aware, my post was a joke because I’m frequently told on here that what matters is not what is written in EU regulations, but rather the “spirit of the law” behind the regulations.

Gotcha. Spirit of the law arguments are interesting when it’s made to support whatever position someone has on the matter.

Edit:Typo. Gotta love iPhone dictation

Or even keep the overall thinness, and opt for a wedge at the camera lens module.
We could have Apple Doorstop memes as another benefit, but no.
An additional 0.14 - 0.17" of thickness to take away the camera bump makes the iPhone a doorstop? I'll gladly take the bigger battery for this big sacrifice.

The Oppo Find N5 is rumored to have a 5400 mAh battery and the 8 Elite processor. The battery life will be very good given my battery life with the OnePlus 12 with a 5400 mAh battery and the older 8 Gen 3 processor.

Irrelevant how thin it is when open -- a foldable would in fact would make the "bulging pockets" issue worse.
I am not sure if you had used a foldable phone before or not, but the OnePlus Open and Z Fold 6 are more comfortable in my jean pockets than the iPhone 16 Pro Max or S24 Ultra.

Well, it's released, and it's bloody impressive. The Mac integration through the Connect looks really good.
