Ive had both phones. The iPhones pics are WAY better than the HTC. Low light or not.

Colour reproduction I always find very pleasing on the iPhone. only in very poor lighting do I never need any real post correction. Other phones I have either found very washed out, over saturated or very noisy.

This prediction makes no sense...both will have OIS.

5S did well, 5C failed. Apple knows the consumer wants the best specs.

They're trying to come up with a 2nd offering but they can't make the difference between the two phones too different.

The 4.7 is going to be the mainstream phone while the 5.5" will be the phone with less interest. They won't make the mainstream phone have worse specs...they know people will hold out for next years 6s.
They won't risk it.
engg2000

By failed you mean sold more units than every Android handset? Outsold every smartphone except the iPhone 5s. Damn failure is pretty good in this game. I should add, I don't imagine Apple putting OIS in one size and not the other, but I could be wrong.

The camera is the differentiator between the 4.7" & 5.5" models? Uh... Seems to me the screen size is what is going to motive people to buy one over the other. The 5.5" could have a 4K screen & I still want the 4.7" version. I'm sure those that want the 5.5" feel the same if opposite was true. Better camera is nice, but doubt that us what gets the wallet out.

Another story, another analyst hedging bets due to "supply constraints".

If true, what a load of dog feces.

I thought each generation should see improvement. Screen size changes is just surrendering to market demand. Incremental changes in technology are to be expected not celebrated.

New features and functionality across the entire spectrum of the 6th generation line is expected and anything less speaks poorly of Apple.

Apple continues to make petty decisions about decisions such as these. It's really chicken####.

I prefer Apple and they won't lose my business but they surely lose my respect.

You might wait till Apple actually does something and save your disrespect from the Analysts that are wrong 70-80% of the time.

Still going to go for 4.7" even if it is plastic and has the standard camera. 5.5" is too big for my tastes.

Can't believe people are complaining about this....

The 4.7" model is going to be the "C" model and the 5.5" is going to be the premium model. It's funny because people never complained over the lack of Touch ID in the 5c.

Not everyone sees a larger screen as a premium. Sadly, I feel a larger screen to be a burden.

I really don't want to be forced to buy the hardware I don't want for the software and internals that I do.

If I were Tim Cook, I'd make the 5.5" the flagship with better specs, extra RAM, 4K screen, better battery life, faster processor and a better camera just to irritate everyone on MacRumors. :D:D

The 5.5 will also have the true tone flash, while the 4.7 will not. Sorry 4.7 buyers.

The 4.7" will also feature Apple's first plastic screen.

I heard the 5.5 will weigh about 50% less than the 4.7 as well

If Apple can't eat $5.00 per phone, something is very wrong. I like Apple because they *appear* to put product first. A move like this seems to put profit first. And with the low powered iMac's, I don't like where this is going. This is a move a struggling company does, not the #1 tech company in the world. If you have a better camera, put it in both.

This is what a company does to maximize profits. It makes it's customers pay more for the better features.

My thoughts exactly. iPad Air and iPad mini only differ in screen size, everything else is the same (SoC, resolution, storage sizes, cameras, connectivity...)
Air has a better screen (specifically, better color).

If the specs really are different (other than screen size) between different sizes of iPhones, a lot of people are going to be pissed off. Not everybody wants a huge phone.
So much this. Camera quality is one reason I was never interested in an Android device (until recently). I've would LOVE to have OIS but I really don't want a 5.5" phone.

Then again, remember that an analyst's clients are investors and as such their main job is to manipulate the market for their clients' benefit.

Not suprised. Screen, battery size and maybe storage are the differences. So, the extra 100 dollar is not too bad. lol

I don't get the "a lot of people are going to be pissed off" sentiment. Get over yourselves. You will have the choice of buying the larger phone. If you don't want the size, it's not like the 4.7" won't take pictures. The current phones take excellent pictures, this is just additional icing on the cake. Did everyone REALLY think they wouldn't somehow offer other advantages of the larger phone? I mean heck, should Samsung not include the stylus features in the Note because it might butt-hurt the S5 owners?

The iPhone Pro will have the higher specs of course.

The 2014 iPhone lineup?
-iPhone Pro
-iPhone Air
-iPhone Mini

agree, pro iphone 6 5.5 in, air 4.7 in, and mini 5s. :D

totally, agree!! If you want extra stuff, pay extra!

Probably people are complaining because not everyone (myself included) wants a phablet. I figured the 5.5 and the 4.7 would be speced the same (with the 5.5 demanding a premium over today's iPhone prices while the 4.7 is priced the same and the 5S becomes the lower tier) so I hope this is a junk rumor, but I really sincerely hope that the 5.5 isn't the sole flagship model. I really don't plan on buying a phone that I can't fit in my pocket, and 4.7 is pushing it already. This particular rumor is probably wrong but in general I'm sure that this is a concern for a lot of people who just really don't care to have a gigantic phone.

Touch ID in the 5C is a bit different. The difference between the 5S and the 5C is features, not size. This is the first iteration where we're looking at new widths for the iPhone, and different widths being released at the same time or close to each other.

Nope.

a significant cost premium ($4 to $5) , just made me realize how cheap these things are in total

This sounds plausible. Apple has always had issues with component supply constraints due to the number of devices they sell - from displays to fingerprint scanners.

If they’re looking to get an additional premium charge for the 5.5”, a combination of larger display using sapphire and some other enhancements like OIS make sense. Honestly, when Joe Consumer looks at the outstanding photos from a 4.7” model and sees the price difference, OIS won’t make a difference even if it’s technically superior. Plus, it sounds like there’s some space considerations for OIS that would be offset by the larger 5.5” chassis[?]

iPhones are now our main cameras, so I’m all for as many camera improvements as possible.
