can you put 2TB drives in a mac pro? why opt for 1.5??
Yes, you can fit 2TB drives. It's SATA, and currently the largest capacity available for a single disk.

IIRC, the 1.5TB units are already in-hand, and need a good home. :D :p

Yes, I'm going for 4*1,5 as I already have them. I was running them in a Drobo, but that device being slow and the fact I needed to flash the firmware to fix the Seagate bug meant I ended up getting a Lacie 6tB 4Big Disk to use instead. So the disks from the Drobo can go int the Mac Pro, now that I can finally update the firmware! I'll keep the Drobo chassis and use the 640 that came with the Mac pro in it along with some other spare drives I have around.

The MP arrived this morning. I've just finished unpacking. Initial impressions. Wow it is fast - even just stock as it came out of the box. Handbrake encodes over 10x faster than on my old G5 and almost and about 3.5 to 4 times faster than my Macbook Pro. :D

There was a nice surprise in the box too. A few spec bumps over what I thought I was getting:

ATIbHD 4870 instead of GT120,
4*2Gb instead of 6*1Gb so I have 4 free slots now, so can get up to 16Gb much cheaper!
Airport card!

I was not expecting that. I'll certainly look at going refurb again :D

Once I get over the initial unpacking thrill I'll spend same time over the weekend flashing Seagate drives and testing various RAID setups.

No other brand except BMW seem to make getting a new product so much fun! :D

Not to worry. I thought it sounded a little too good to be true, at least for the short term. Thanks for checking and confirming back though.

This recent announcement is probably the next best thing though. http://www.macworld.com/article/142983/2009/09/autodesk.html

Hopefully that relationship will help ensure compatibility, stability and support which might have been lacking until now when using Parallels.
