Same here. Just got 60$ credited to my CC.

Ordered the 2.6Ghz/16gb/512gb from EDU store in Canada.

CR was a little bit surprised about the problem but after he tried to build it for himself he admitted I was right and gave me the refund.

Just got off the phone with Apple, they credited $60 back to my card with no pushback whatsoever. He just had to build the computers for himself and verify...

I'd jump on this today if you want to take advantage.

Ouch. Would have done the 2.6GHz option for £100. I received the computer on the 19th, so while I have a couple days left to return, my travel arrangements are such that there's no way I'll be able to process a return in time. What a low blow...

Not all people in this thread see the same options when they surf to the apple.com website. Some see the old options (2.3Ghz + 256GB SSD) whereas others like me see additional features (more processor and SSD options). I've shown absolutely everything which I can see in the original post.

I think some people in this thread have noted discrepencies (when using edu rebates) for certain configurations of the 2.6Ghz model. However, I don't have access to the educational section of apple.com (because I'm not a student). Check the comments from Icaras, uhslax24, and others in this thread for more info.

I'm noticing these configuration options available on the US store. The pre-installed software section is definitely new. I wonder what the point is of having multiple models of the rMBP if you can just configure everything straight from the base one.

Have to wait until 4pm to call my represenative since she doesn't get there until then. On the original reciept email it said she is available from 4pm-1am so I'll try sometime between then and ask here if a $60 refund is possible I am a student an ordered from the education store.

i'm a little bit annoyed by this as I would have ordered a 2.6/16/256 if i'd had the chance.

I'm still in my 14 day return period, but as my machine otherwise seems perfect (no dead pixels, whisper quiet and over 11k in Geekbench) I'm not sure it's worth the hassle.

oh to be an early adopter

Dont sweat on it, my 2.3 consistently benchmarks above 11K there is little to no real world improvement in performance versus the 2.6, this just gives the high tier rMBP more appeal for the $$$, the 2.7 is for those that can moniterize the cost difference and are pegging out the CPU where in general time is money.

Excellent. I have a couple more benchmark sources. They all yield about the same results. ~10% difference. I just wanted to know where you got those benchmarks so I could check them out in the future. Thanks!

Right here http://browser.primatelabs.com/mac-benchmarks

You can see there is very little between the three CPU options, for the bench test it`s best to close all app`s or you will artificially reduce your score.

You can access the education store without actually being a student. Shouldn't be any legal issues as long as you don't order anything...

I guess I'll call about that refund.

Thanks. I guess I'm not curious enough... :D

Just called apple. My representative was busy and went to voicemail so I just called 1-800-My-Apple. It took awhile (40min) to explain to the representative the pricing error between the base configuration (2.3ghz/8gb/256gb) and the model I selected (16gb/2.6ghz/512gb) in the education store. She had to talk to her advisor but eventually she agreed to credit my credit card back with $60. However she said that the refund wouldn't show up for 31-33 weeks. That is a crazy long time. I don't mind but I'm just surprised it would take that long. She said that it had to do with the re-creditting process taking awhile.

The woman was really surprised that the base model wound up being cheaper when upgraded to the higher end model. I don't think she had heard about the issue yet.

Did those of you who got re-creditted have the same time frame? Is yours going to take 31-33 weeks? I hope the person I talked to made a note of that (this $60 refund) on my order so I can call back and they will understand the situation in case the refund doesn't work or something.

Perfect! Just ordered the 2.6, 16GB, 256 for $2299 (Canada EDU price)!

Same! Originally ordered the base model + 16GB upgrade, but decided to call up apple and upgrade the processor now that the bto options are available.

Took quite a while to complete, so Apple threw in a free Thule bag because of the trouble. As a result, I spent about 10 bucks for the upgrade : )

I think you may have misunderstood her. We are currently on week 31. In other words, I think you will get your refund in 2 weeks at most. At least that's my understanding...

Oh...! That makes so much more sense! I think you're right, I did misunderstand her.  So when she said 31-33 weeks she meant that it is currently the 31st week of 2012 and it should be refunded by 32 or 33?

Just a side note but for anyone who is trying to get the refund, it helps to mention that people on websites are reporting getting the refund themselves. When I asked initially she said that I would have to return the whole computer for a full refund when I received it (it is still in the process of shipping, in shanghai currently). It wasn't until I said that the way I found out about the pricing difference was through websites like this one and that I knew apple does give refunds for the $60 difference because others already reported receiving theirs by calling their representatives. As soon as she heard that, she checks with her supervisor and agreed to credit back.

Any chance I could swap my rMBP even though I didn't buy it at an Apple Store?

Not a chance. You can't swap a rMBP at an Apple store if you didn't but it from one. Return it from where you bought it from and if you're already passed the return date, you're S.O.L
